14th and T streets closed in NW

Mark Berman

8:35 A.M. UPDATE:

-- T Street remains blocked at 14th Street due to the water main break in Northwest.

-- One person was trapped by the accident on I-395, but they have been extricated, according to the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Twitter.

-- I-395 North is jammed up at the 14th Street Bridge.

8:15 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The Post's Emily Ingram reports that water is flowing down T Street and away from 14th Street, but it's not a gushing break or anything. Traffic can get through 14h Street, but just can't turn onto T Street (and it's only blocked for a block).

-- The accident on I-395 near 12th Street is actually on southbound I-395, not northbound as was originally reported.

-- An accident on I-395 North near the 12th Street expressway could cause traffic problems for commuters heading into the District.

7:40 A.M. UPDATE:

The broken 6 inch water main is currently being worked on by DC Water crews. It's on T Street between 13th and 14th streets.

Drivers should obviously avoid the area (this is just around the corner from the U Street Metro station). If you need to head east or west, try taking Florida Avenue (to the north); if you need to head north or south, I'd head to 16th Street or 9th Street to make sure you're out of the problem area.

7:25 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-495 North is jammed up at Arlington Boulevard.

-- I-95 North/the Beltway is backed up to the east of the Springfield Interchange.

-- An accident on I-395 North at Glebe Road is blocking the right shoulder of the HOV lane.

7:05 A.M. UPDATE:

Due to a water main break in the 1300 block of T Street in Northwest, the intersection of 14th and T streets is closed.

6:55 A.M. UPDATE:

-- There's already congestion on I-495 North at Gallows Road.

-- I-395 North is also backed up at Duke Street.

6:30 A.M. UPDATE:

A pair of disabled vehicles on the Outer Loop of the Beltway could cause delays for drivers. There are two disabled vehicles blocking the right shoulders on I-495 South, one at G.W. Parkway and the other at Arlington Boulevard.

6:15 A.M. UPDATE:

No big delays or issues to report thus far this morning.

Commuters, it's going to be another warm one today. Check back here throughout the morning rush hour for tips on traffic snafus and headaches. But in the meantime, if you see or hear of anything amiss, please let us know in the comments below!

In the meantime, here are some tips from Dr. Gridlock to remember about some ongoing work this week:

-- The reconstruction of Ohio Drive by the National Park Service is scheduled to be done in October. Monday through Friday, morning rush hours (6 a.m.-10 a.m.), Ohio Drive will be two lanes of inbound traffic only. During the morning rush, westbound Independence Avenue will be closed beyond 17th Street. Traffic has been advised to detour onto 15th or 17th Street or use alternate routes.

Off-peak hours will have one lane in each direction. Afternoon rush hours (3:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m.), Ohio Drive will be two lanes outbound only.

-- One travel lane on the outbound ramp from Constitution Avenue to the Roosevelt Bridge (Interstate 66) will close for repairs each day until Oct. 10 between 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., and again between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. One travel lane on the outbound ramp will remain open at all times, the District Department of Transportation says.

-- Off-peak lane closings in both directions are occurring in both directions on the Southeast-Southwest Freeway, I-295/DC 295 and local streets around the 11th Street Bridge reconstruction project.

Drivers may encounter these closings, and resulting congestion, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays:
- One lane in each direction of I-295/DC 295 between Pennsylvania Avenue and Howard Road.
- One lane of the inbound 11th Street Bridge and connecting ramp to the Southeast-Southwest Freeway.
- One lane of the outbound 11th Street Bridge and the connecting ramp to southbound I-295/DC 295.
- One lane of the ramp from northbound I-295/DC 295 to the inbound 11th Street Bridge.
- One lane of the ramp from the eastbound Southeast-Southwest Freeway to the outbound 11th Street Bridge.
- One lane in each direction of the Southeast-Southwest Freeway from the 6th Street exit to Pennsylvania Avenue.
- The right lane of westbound Good Hope Road between 13th Street SE and Anacostia Drive.
- One lane of N Street between 12th and 11th Street SE.
- Lanes in both directions on O Street SE, resulting in a shared lane between 11th and 12th streets SE. (Watch for flagger directing traffic.)
