I-66 West closing overnight
Construction updates | Travel tips l Capital Weather Gang
Westbound Interstate 66 at the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) will be closed overnight for work on the Dulles Metrorail extension. The closing is scheduled to begin at midnight and end by 5 a.m. Wednesday. This work was planned for last weekend, but was delayed.
Drivers bound for destinations along I-66 west of Arlington will be affected by the shutdown. Through traffic will be detoured to the westbound Dulles Connector Road, then to Route 123 south toward Tysons Corner, to a right turn onto the ramp to the Capital Beltway south toward Richmond. Drivers can then rejoin I-66 from the Beltway.
Drivers bound for destinations inside the Capital Beltway may find alternate routes via other local westbound roads by exiting I-66 prior before the I-66/Dulles Connector Road split. For example, traffic bound for the Broad Street (Route 7) and Idylwood areas can exit before the detour and use Route 29/Washington Street to connect with Broad Street.
Additional closures in this location are planned for overnight Friday and Saturday.
