Eastern Ave blocked in NE DC

Mark Berman

8:35 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Eastern Avenue is still closed between Rhode Island Avenue and Bladensburg Road in Northeast. This is due to work repairing a broken 16 inch water main, so avoid that spot if you can.

-- I-66 East is still very backed up at the Beltway and at Glebe Road in Arlington.

-- An accident on MD 295 South at U.S. 50 is blocking one southbound lane.

-- Emergency roadwork on the East-West Highway at Riverdale Road in Riverdale is still blocking one westbound lane and two eastbound lanes.

8:15 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on the Outer Loop at Greenbelt Road could cause delays.

7:55 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Emergency roadwork on the East-West Highway at Riverdale Road in Riverdale is still blocking one westbound lane and two eastbound lanes.

-- I-66 East is very backed up at the Beltway and at Glebe Road in Arlington.

7:35 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Police activity is blocking the following streets in Southwest:

- Half Street from M to P streets
- First and N streets
- Howison Place and N Street
- Canal and O streets
- Delaware Avenue and M Street
- South Capitol and N streets

-- An accident on I-295 near Malcolm X Avenue in Southeast could cause problems.

7:15 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Emergency roadwork on the East-West Highway at Riverdale Road in Riverdale is blocking one westbound lane and two eastbound lanes.

-- I-66 East is backed up at Chain Bridge Road.

6:50 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Eastern Avenue is still blocked, and the water main repair is expected to last until 4 p.m. (according to D.C. Water). This is occurring right on the Maryland/Washington border, so it's going to cause some big headaches.

For drivers in the area, I'd recommend heading north to Michigan Avenue or south to New York Avenue (yes, you'd be braving some bad congestion there, but at least the road is open).

-- An accident on I-270 South before the Montrose Road exit is blocking one southbound lane.

-- There are still backups on I-95 North in Occoquan.

6:20 A.M. UPDATE:

-- A water main break has closed Eastern Avenue between Rhode Island Avenue and Bladensburg Road in Northeast. The broken 16 inch water main is going to cause problems for drivers in the area, so avoid that spot if you can.

-- An accident on I-95 North in Occoquan is blocking the left lane and left shoulder, causing bad backups.

-- The Inner Loop off-ramp is cleared at Georgia Avenue.

-- The I-270 North roadwork has also been cleared.

ORIGINAL POST:

Good morning, commuters! Yesterday's "Terrible Traffic Tuesday" wasn't quite so bad as forecast. With a bit of rain possibly heading our way this morning, will this morning rush be worse? Keep your eyes here throughout the morning for updates on all of the headaches awaiting your commute. As always, add anything you see or hear in the comments section below.

-- There's a disabled vehicle on the Inner Loop at Georgia Avenue, blocking the right off-ramp.

-- Roadwork on I-270 North is blocking one local lane at I-370 as well as one of the shoulders.
