Marlboro Pike reopened

Mark Berman

8:35 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-95 North is slow as you approach the Springfield Interchange.

-- I-66 East is still backed up heading to Nutley Street.

-- I-395 North is very congested at the 14th Street Bridge.

8:25 A.M. UPDATE:

The Outer Loop lane has reopened.

8:10 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Marlboro Pike has reopened in Capitol Heights.

-- A disabled vehicle is blocking one lane of the Outer Loop at University Boulevard.

7:45 A.M. UPDATE:

The accident on I-66 East has been cleared and the lanes reopened. But don't expect it to suddenly become an easy drive or anything: Big backups still remain leading up to the Beltway.

7:25 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on I-66 East at the Beltway is blocking the left lane, left center lane and left shoulder. Considering the usual backups on I-66 East at the Beltway -- with congestion already building as you get to this point without lane closures -- expect it to be incredibly slow.

-- I-495 North/the Inner Loop is very backed up heading to Gallows Road.

7:05 A.M. UPDATE:

Three people were killed in the accident involving an SUV and an ambulance this morning, not two people as was originally reported. Head over to Post Now for more.

6:55 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-395 North is blocked leading to the 14th Street Bridge as well as Duke Street.

-- I-66 East is very backed up heading to Nutley Street.

6:25 A.M. UPDATE:

If you're taking Marlboro Pike towards the accident area and want to try to avoid any of the backups from the closures, here are some suggestions:

-- Eastbound traffic could take Southern Avenue south to Pennsylvania Avenue or north to Central Avenue.

-- For westbound travelers, your best bet to head north is Kipling Parkway. To head south, Ritchie Road is a good choice, but it eventually turns into Forrestville Road and hits the Beltway.

ORIGINAL POST:

Good morning, commuters! We're in for yet another day of lovely weather, so at least you can crack open the window if you're stuck in traffic. Check back here throughout the morning for updates on your commute to find out the headaches awaiting you on the road and, as always, let us know anything else you see or hear in the comments below.

-- An accident on Marlboro Pike in Capitol Heights has blocked it in both directions between Brooks Drive and Silver Hill Road. This is not a small chunk of road, so expect delays in and around the area. This stretch of Marlboro Pike runs directly parallel to Pennsylvania Avenue, so that might be your best bet if you take Marlboro Pike in the morning.

This is where anaccident occurred early this morning involving an SUV and a Prince George's County ambulance. Two people in the SUV were killed. The accident occurred in the 5600 block of Marlboro Pike, which is right between Brooks Drive and Silver Hill Road.
