Massive traffic delays in Va.
5 p.m. Update: Transportation officials are reporting several problem areas in Northern Virginia this afternoon as drivers head home.
-- Backups on 395 in Arlington extend about four miles due to congestion.
-- Traffic on Interstate 66 west is backed up about three miles from Chain Bridge Road.
-- Traffic backups on Interstate 95 South in Fairfax County extend about six miles from the Occoquan.
Original post: An accident on the Capital Beltway near U.S. 50 in Fairfax County is causing backups of approximately two miles, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. Officials said drivers can expect major delays. The shoulder of the Inner Loop, the left lane and the left center lane are closed. Officials said backups currently extend about two miles.

The Washington Post realizes that U.S. 50 crosses the Beltway twice... once in Maryland and then again in Virginia, right? Please clarify which state if you are going to post it on the front page of the website!
