11:15 A.M. UPDATE:

High water on the 1000 block of Rhode Island Avenue in Northeast has blocked the road.

11 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Virginia Avenue has reopened in Northwest.

-- Standing water at 17th Street and Independence Avenue in Southwest might impact traffic.

-- One eastbound lane on University Boulevard is still blocked in Silver Spring.


10:55 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The flash flood warning for the region has been extended until 4:30 p.m.

10:50 A.M. UPDATE:

There have been no groundings or cancellations for any flights in the greater Washington area, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. There were some flights from New York to the D.C. area that were grounded temporarily due to weather issues in New York, but that's it.

10:30 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Tornado warnings were issued for Anne Arundel County until 10:15 a.m. and have been allowed to expire.

-- Two flight attendants aboard a U.S. Airways flight arriving at Reagan National Airport from Providence, Rhode Island were injured when the plane experienced turbulence, according to a company spokesman. The flight was met by paramedics and the two were taken to a local hospital around 7:30 a.m., officials said. Information on their conditions was not immediately available. -- Maria Glod

10:15 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Traffic is really jammed on the Beltway (in both directions) around the Dulles Toll Road and Old Dominion Drive.

-- There's also potential flooding on the ramp from Route 7 eastbound to I-495 North.

-- One eastbound lane on University Boulevard is still blocked in Silver Spring.

9:50 A.M. UPDATE:

-The left two lanes of I-395 South are closed at Washington Boulevard. The right two lanes are now open, so traffic is moving again, albeit very slowly as you move from the 14th Street Bridge and head south into Virginia.

9:40 A.M. UPDATE:

Metro just issued a press release regarding what they called the "minor" bus accident in Silver Spring earlier this morning. They reported that the Metrobus which rear-ended the other Metrobus sustained damage to its windshield and door and was towed to a Metrobus garage. The driver was cited by Montgomery County Police for failing to control the vehicle speed, they reported.

-- Two of the University Avenue lanes have reopened at Brunett Avenue in Silver Spring. One eastbound lane remains blocked.

-- H Street is blocked in Northeast from 13th Street to 14th Street due to fire activity.

9:12 A.M. UPDATE:

An update on the accident on I-395 South at Washington Boulevard: Traffic is getting by on the far right, but there are still heavy backups as you approach the area.

The southbound left lane, left center lane, and right center lane are closed.

9:10 A.M. UPDATE:

Some road closures from Anne Arundel County:

-- Furnace Branch Road at the Rt. 97 overpass due to flooding

-- Nursery Road at Rt. 648 due to flooding.

-- 5255 Sands Road closed due to tree across road and pole down.

-- Route 450 closed at Huntwood Road and at St. Stephens Church Road for high standing water.

-- Andover Road at White Avenue closed.

9 A.M. UPDATE:

-- There's a report of an accident on I-395 South near Washington Boulevard (h/t to ARL Now). The accident reportedly involved an S.U.V. rollover, and traffic cameras show all lanes blocked by the accident scene.

8:45 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Standing water is blocking the northbound right lane on Route 123 near Middlegate Drive in Fairfax County.

-- Standing water is also blocking the south exit ramp from I-495 South/Outer Loop to Route 123 North (exit 46A).

8:25 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The accident on I-95/Inner Loop at Pennsylvania Avenue has been cleared.

8:20 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The accident on the Douglass Bridge has been cleared, according to the District Department of Transportation.

8:15 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Virginia Avenue is blocked in Northwest from 21st to 25th streets due to standing water.

8:10 A.M. UPDATE:

Time for another roundup of accidents and road closures!

MARYLAND
-- An accident on I-95/Inner Loop at Pennsylvania Avenue is blocking one lane.

-- As we just reported, University Avenue is blocked eastbound at Brunett Avenue in Silver Spring.

VIRGINIA

-- An accident on Dulles Toll Road/VA 267 near the eastbound ramp to Route 828 an accident is still blocking the east left lane.

--- Morningside Drive is closed at Prosperity Avenue.

-- Woodburn Road is closed between Robey Avenue and Guinevere Drive.

-- I-395 North and I-95 North remain unmoving nightmares.

8 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Due to the Metrobus accident in Silver Spring. University Boulevard is closed heading eastbound at Burnett Street. There are delays on University Boulevard in both directions.

-- Additionally, here are road closures in Fairfax County:
- Morningside Drive at Prosperity Avenue
- Woodburn Road between Robey Avenue and Guinevere Drive

-- Also in Fairfax, there has been high water reported at Old Courthouse Road/Beulah Road in Vienna and Westfields Boulevard/Walding Road in Chantilly.

-- There are also other impacted roadways throughout Fairfax County, many in the Annandale area.

7:55 A.M. UPDATE:

Montgomery County authorities said 16 people were injured when two Metro buses were involved in an early morning accident in Silver Spring.

Police said the crash occurred just after 7 a.m. at University Boulevard West and Brunett Ave.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Scott Graham said five patients are priority 2, which means they suffered injures that are considered serious but not life-threatening, Graham said. He said the other 11 patients require medial treatment but their injuries were not as severe.

The two Metrobuses were in service and had passengers, according to Angela Gates, Metro spokeswoman. A Metrobus running on a C4 route towards Prince George's Plaza rear-ended a stopped bus running a C2 route towards Greenbelt. Metro supervisors are en route to the scene, Gates said.

7:50 A.M. UPDATE:

The bus accident in Silver Spring involved two Metrobuses that were in service and had passengers. A Metrobus running on a C4 route towards Prince George's Plaza rear-ended a stopped bus running a C2 route towards Greenbelt, according to Angela Gates, Metro spokeswoman.

Metro supervisors are en route to the scene, Gates said

7:30 A.M. UPDATE:

-- We're getting reports of a bus accident in Silver Spring. We'll post more as soon as we have it.

-- The Maryland State Police report that the jackknifed trailer on the Inner Loop near Bradley Road has been cleared.

-- They also report that an accident might be blocking part of the ramp from MD 109/Old Hundred Road to I-270 Northbound.

7:20 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident has been reported on the inbound Douglass Bridge, according to the District Department of Transportation. Expect potential delays.

-- There's a disabled vehicle in the northbound Third Street Tunnel, also per the District Department of Transportation.

7:15 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Traffic on I-395 North is backed up at the 14th Street Bridge and the backups stretch to the Springfield Interchange.

-- Similarly, I-95 North is jammed at the Springfield Interchange, and the backups appear to begin as early as Dale City.

-- I-270 South is very slow at the Beltway, and the delays seem to stretch all the way back to Germantown.

-- The Beltway is also packed in both directions near U.S. 1/Baltimore Avenue in Maryland.

-- There are also heavy backups on the Beltway (again, both directions) near Colesville Road.

7 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-66 East is jammed up at the Beltway. Particularly the far right lane, which is not moving at all.

-- The Inner Loop/I-495 North is crawling at Braddock Road.

-- I-95 North is also pretty jammed approaching the Springfield Interchange.

-- And both directions of the Beltway are crawling along the northeast corner.

6:55 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The accident blocking the north entrance ramp to I-95 North in Dale City (at mile marker 157, shortly before the Prince William Parkway) has been cleared.

-- The accident on I-270 South before Falls Road has also been cleared.

-- And the accident on I-95/Outer Loop at Annapolis Road has been cleared.

6:25 A.M. UPDATE:

The accident on U.S. 50 West has been cleared.

6:20 A.M. UPDATE:

Here's a look at some of the more congested spots we're seeing:

-- I-66 East is pretty packed at Gallows Road.

-- U.S. 50 West is very crowded for inbound commuters at Bladensburg Road.

-- The lanes are also starting to get very crowded on the Beltway (in both directions) near New Hampshire Avenue.

And here is a roundup of accidents we've heard about:

-- The accident on I-270 South before Falls Road is blocking one southbound lane.

-- Three Inner Loop lanes are still blocked north of Bradley Road by an earlier accident involving a tractor trailer.

-- An accident on I-95/Outer Loop at Annapolis Road is blocking one lane.

-- An accident on U.S. 50 West at Ardwick Ardmore Road is blocking an unknown number of lanes, but could cause delays for westbound commuters.

-- An accident on Dulles Toll Road/VA 267 near the eastbound ramp to Route 828 an accident is blocking the east left lane.

-- An accident at I-95 North/the Beltway at Telegraph Road is still blocking the left lane and left shoulder.

-- An accident blocking the north entrance ramp to I-95 North in Dale City (at mile marker 157, shortly before the Prince William Parkway).

6:05 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on I-270 South before Falls Road is blocking two southbound lanes.

-- An accident at I-95 North/the Beltway at Telegraph Road is blocking the left lane and left shoulder.

5:55 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on I-395 South at Washington Boulevard is blocking the left lane and left shoulder.

-- An accident on I-95/Outer Loop at Annapolis Road is blocking one of the shoulders.

5.50 A.M. UPDATE:

A jackknifed tractor trailer is blocking three Inner Loop lanes just north of Bradley Road, according to the Maryland State Police. It's taking up the three right lanes, and only one lane is getting by on the left. There is only a minor injury as a result of the accident. They anticipate the lanes will reopen by 6:20 a.m.

5:40 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on I-495/Inner Loop near Greentree Road in Maryland is blocking three Inner Loop lanes.

5:35 A.M. UPDATE:

-- A tornado watch has been issued for the Washington area until 1 p.m. Maria Glod reports that the tornado watch is in effect for the District, Montgomery and Prince George's Counties in Maryland and the Northern Virginia area.

-- A flash flood warning is also in effect for the area until 10:45 a.m.
