Trooper hurt in 95 accident; delays

4:55 p.m. Update: All lanes have reopened. Traffic cameras show traffic beginning to move smoothly.

4:39 p.m. Update: Traffic backups now extend two miles, according to VDOT. Most of the investigators appear to have left the scene, although a handful of cars remain.

4:25 p.m. Update: Two lanes of northbound traffic are now open. Investigators remain on the scene.

3:58 p.m. Update: Traffic cameras show that investigators, tow trucks and at least one vehicle with substantial damage remain on the scene.

3:50 p.m. Update: According to Virginia State Police, authorities received a call about 1:13 p.m. that an accident involving a state trooper had occurred one mile south of the Route 123 exit In Prince William County. The trooper was taken by helicopter to Inova Fairfax Hospital with injuries, said spokeswoman Deborah Cox in a statement. She did not specify the extent of the injuries or whether other people were involved. One lane of I-95 north is open to traffic, she said.

2:50 p.m. Update: Traffic cameras show that authorities are routing northbound traffic pass the accident scene by allowing travel on the left shoulder.

2:45 p.m. Update: According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, backups now extend six miles.

2:30 p.m. Update: The traffic stops just north of Prince William Parkway, but we haven't been able to see the accident scene itself. According to traffic cameras, Prince William Parkway is jammed.

2:25 p.m. Update: Traffic cameras north of Prince William Parkway show a firetruck and ambulance on the scene, along with two helicopters in the middle of the northbound lanes of the highway.

2:20 p.m. Update: According to the state of Virginia, the accident in Prince William County occurred near Exit 158. Traffic backups currently extend 3 miles.

An alternate route is to use Exit 152, to Route 234 (Dumfries Road) and take Route 1 north back to I-95.

Original post: An accident on Interstate 95 near Dale Daly City has all northbound lanes closed.

On I-95 at mile marker 158 in the County of Prince William, motorists can expect major delays due to a multi-vehicle accident. The north left shoulder, left lane, left center lane, right center lane, right lane, and right shoulder are closed. Traffic backups are approximately 3.0 miles.
There is a major accident at exit 158. Motorist are advised to use exit 152, route 234 and take route 1 north back to I-95.
