Third St. Tunnel reopens

3:50 p.m. Update: DDOT reports that the tunnel has reopened.

strong>3:40 p.m. Update: The southbound tunnel is closed for an investigation.

Update 3:12 p.m. Update:Most of the fire is out, according to authorities, and the tunnel is being vented, but heavy smoke continues. Expect traffic delays.

Original post: A D.C. Fire / EMS official says that there is heavy smoke coming from the Third Street Tunnel following reports of a vehicle fire.

395 Southbound is closed, but northbound is open. It is difficult to cross over 395 at D and E streets due to emergency vehicles but they are open. The fire is out but 395 south is still closed. I can see this from my apartment.
