Traffic issues around McPherson Sq

Mark Berman

8:40 A.M. UPDATE:

Remember to expect delays heading towards downtown D.C. due to lingering traffic problems from this morning's road closures.

And your three Maryland road issues remain:

-- Two of three northbound lanes of Georgia Avenue remian closed at Wayne Avenue due to a water main break. Expect problems around Silver Spring.

-- A water main repair on Central Avenue/MD 214 at St. Michaels Drive in Bowie is blocking one westbound lane and one of the shoulders.

-- A utility problem on Veterans Parkway/MD 410 is still blocking that road in both directions at Riverdale Road in Lanham.

8:10 A.M. UPDATE:

Traffic is also backed up at 16th and K streets as well as 18th and I (Eye) streets. Expect delays around these spots and consider alternate roads or commuting a bit later if you can.

8:05 A.M. UPDATE:

All of the police cars that were massing on the intersections around McPherson Square seem to have departed. Traffic is moving again on these downtown streets, albeit slowly in some cases (Eye Street westbound in particular).

7:40 A.M. UPDATE:

And now the suspicious package has been cleared, so traffic should be getting back to normal, reports D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services. We're still waiting on a callback from them to find out more details and will let you know when we know. The McPherson Square station has fully reopened as well.

7:30 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Traffic remains snarled at spots in downtown D.C. near the McPherson Square Metro station, so expect delays if you're heading that way. Roadways still closed near McPherson Square include 16th and H streets as well as 15th Street between H and I (Eye) streets.

7:05 A.M. UPDATE:

Traffic cameras show big backups on southbound 14th and 16th streets near I (Eye) and K streets in Northwest, due to the police activity remaining around the McPherson Square Metro station. There are still police cars on the intersections of 15th and H streets as well as 16th and I (Eye) streets.

6:35 A.M. UPDATE:

-- Police activity at the McPherson Square station is blocking 16th Street at H Street and the intersections of 15th and H streets as well as 15th and I streets. People are also being diverted from McPherson Square.

-- A water main repair on Central Avenue/MD 214 at St. Michaels Drive in Bowie is blocking one westbound lane and one of the shoulders.

6:20 A.M. UPDATE:

There's a disabled vehicle on I-95 North shortly before the Springfield Interchange, but it's blocking the right shoulder.

5:55 A.M. UPDATE:

A utility problem on Veterans Parkway/MD 410 is blocking that road in both directions at Riverdale Road in Lanham.
