Commuting on Veterans Day

By Mark Berman
Mark Berman

8:25 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on the Outer Loop at Telegraph Road is blocking the exit ramp as well as the right shoulder. Expect some issues approaching the exit, though traffic looks so light it shouldn't be too bad.

-- An accident on I-66 East at Chain Bridge Road is blocking the shoulder.

7:40 A.M. UPDATE:

Things are still pretty quiet this morning, but there is a bit of congestion on the Beltway (both directions) near the American Legion Bridge. If you're heading out, that might be a spot where you're surprised to see other cars out and about.

7:10 A.M. UPDATE:

Roads look pretty clear so far this morning. The Beltway, I-66, U.S. 50 (heading to D.C.) -- they all look fairly empty. I-95 North (heading to the Beltway in Virginia) and I-270 South (heading towards I-370 in Maryland) have more cars on the road, but things are moving.

There's a disabled vehicle on the shoulder of I-95 South right after the Springfield Interchange. Even though it's on the shoulder, this could cause brief delays, so be aware.

6:40 A.M. UPDATE:

The lanes on I-95 South and I-270 North have reopened in Maryland.

6:10 A.M. UPDATE:

Another note for commuters: Parking enforcement is lifted in D.C., Arlington, Alexandria, and Montgomery County (at on-street parking meters and facilities). This is on top of the other altered transit services in place for the holiday.

Good morning, commuters! It's Veterans Day, so you government folks are off while a lot of private sector people are heading to the office.

Holiday traffic patterns are in effect in the District. This includes traffic flow on 16th Street NW, Connecticut Avenue, Canal Road NW and Independence Avenue, per the District Department of Transportation. And according to the National Park Service, holiday patterns also will be in effect on Rock Creek Parkway and Beech Drive, while Henry Bacon Drive will be closed between 23rd Street and Constitution Avenue for observances at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Here are some other headaches to be aware of:

-- Two lanes on I-95 South are blocked past Ritchie Marlboro Road due to a disabled vehicle.

-- Roadwork on I-270 is blocking two northbound lanes at I-370.

-- An accident on I-95 North in Lorton is blocking the right shoulder of the HOV lane.
