Inner Loop lanes blocked in MD

By Mark Berman
Mark Berman

-- An accident on the Inner Loop north of MD 295 is blocking two lanes.

-- The tractor trailer accident we mentioned before is blocking the right shoulder of the Inner Loop ramp to I-66 (exit 49). The Inner Loop is very backed up approaching this area, so expect delays.

-- I-395 North is still backed up after Glebe Road.

8:40 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The Outer Loop lane has reopened at Leesburg Pike.

-- The Inner Loop is still jammed up at I-66, and it's might get worse since there's a tractor trailer accident at that spot.

-- I-66 East is also pretty backed up at the Beltway.

-- And I-395 North has some congestion after Glebe Road.

8:20 A.M. UPDATE:

A disabled vehicle on the Outer Loop at Leesburg Pike/Route 7 is blocking the left lane.

8:05 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-395 North is very congested approaching Seminary Road right now, so expect delays emerging from the Springfield Interchange.

-- I-66 East remains a problem at Chain Bridge and Sudley roads.

-- I-66 West is also backed up at Sycamore Street in Arlington.

7:45 A.M. UPDATE:

-- The Outer Loop accident near Colesville Road has been cleared.

-- The Inner Loop is pretty backed up approaching I-66 right now.

7:20 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on the Outer Loop before Colesville Road could cause delays and problems.

-- The shoulder has reopened on I-66 East at Sudley Road, but it's still pretty backed up there and at Chain Bridge Road.

-- The accident on I-66 East at Sudley Road has been moved to the shoulder, but delays remain approaching that point.

-- I-66 East is also still backed up at Chain Bridge Road.

-- The Inner Loop is slow approaching Gallows Road.

6:45 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on I-66 East at Sudley Road is blocking the right center lane and right lane.

-- I-66 East is also pretty congested at Chain Bridge Road.

6:25 A.M. UPDATE:

The accident on the G.W. Parkway ramp to I-495 North has been cleared.

Good morning, commuters.
It's going to warm up a slight bit this morning, while a dense fog advisory is in effect for D.C. and the surrounding region until 11 a.m. Check back here throughout the morning for updates on what to expect during this morning rush hour.

-- There's an accident is on the right shoulder of the ramp from George Washington Parkway to I-495 North.

-- The Beulah Road and Dulles Toll Road lanes have reopened after closing Saturday morning.

-- Ohio Drive was closed between 23rd Street and Independence Avenue/Rock Creek Parkway over the weekend to complete final paving and striping. It was set to reopen at 5:30 a.m. this morning.

-- And another reminder: During the morning rush, the Cathedral Avenue and Woodley Road ramps to the southbound Rock Creek Parkway are closed. Between 6:30 and 10 a.m., traffic can enter the Calvert Street ramp (adjacent to the Shoreham Hotel) and proceed to the southbound parkway.

If you can't get onto Rock Creek Parkway in this vicinity while it's southbound-only in the morning, you might want to consider hopping on the roadway at a later time. Try heading south and jumping on at P Street, for example (it might take a little while to head south on Connecticut or Wisconsin Avenue to make your way to P Street, but at least it gets you onto Rock Creek).

I generally like this blog, but you guys really need to work on specificity.

For instance, when i first saw the 6:45 a.m. update, it simply said there was an accident on I-66 blocking the two right lanes. Then later it was updated to read: "An accident on I-66 East at Sudley Road is blocking the right center lane and right lane."

But really? "At Sudley Road?" Acceidents almost never happen right at either the exit or the entrance. it is usually before or after.

So please in the future, have a template for reporting accidents. Say what exit is it closest to. Say whether it is before or after the exit. And if it is really right at it, then get even more specific. Say, "just before the exit to sudley road" or "just after the merger lane from sudley road." And if you are not sure, state that, too.

in general this blog does a good job, but that is something that needs to be worked on.
