Many lane closings tonight
The Capital Weather Gang says rain will begin overnight and continue through the morning commute, but several highway work projects remain scheduled for tonight.
Beltway HOT lanes
Work on the High Occupancy Toll lanes is scheduled to close the Capital Beltway's inner loop at Braddock Road from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Both loops are scheduled for shutdowns of up to 40 minutes after midnight near I-66.
Reconstruction of the interchange, part of the Wilson Bridge project, will require full closures of Telegraph Road northbound and the outer loop tonight for concrete bridge deck placement and the installment of an overhead sign. The work is scheduled for 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Overnight Thursday, between midnight to 5 a.m., the outer loop is scheduled to be closed to traffic once for about 20 minutes.
Hunter Mill Road
The road in the Reston area is scheduled to be closed at the Dulles Toll Road between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. During the closings, which will occur each night this week, workers on the Dulles Metrorail project will install decking for a bridge that will carry tracks for the new Metrorail line in the median of the Dulles Toll Road over Hunter Mill Road.
Drivers going south on Hunter Mill Road will need to detour by turning right onto Sunset Hills Road, left onto Wiehle Avenue, then left onto Sunrise Valley Drive to reconnect with Hunter Mill Road.
Drivers heading north on Hunter Mill Road will be directed to turn left onto Sunrise Valley Drive, right onto Wiehle Avenue, then right on Sunset Hills Road to reach northbound Hunter Mill Road.
I-270 lane closings
The Maryland State Highway Administration has canceled overnight lane closures that had been planned for northbound I-270 north of exit 6 (West Montgomery Avenue) for installation of an overhead sign. This is part of the Intercounty Connector project.
The work has been rescheduled for overnight Thursday, weather permitting.
