Metro bus, vehicle collide
[This post will be updated]
1:25 p.m. Update: A Metro bus rear-ended a vehicle just before noon Tuesday in the 4000 block of East Capitol Street NE, injuring at least nine people, according to a Metro official.
A 96 bus headed to McLean Gardens with 40 people aboard hit the vehicle at 11:55, said Metro spokeswoman Taryn McNeil. She said eight male passengers complained of neck, back, and knee injuries and one female passenger was also injured -- and all were taken to the hospital. She said she did not believe the injuries were life-threatening.
McNeil did not know if anyone in the vehicle struck by the bus was injured and did not have information on the severity of the damage to the vehicles.
The bus driver will undergo routine drug and alcohol testing, McNeil said.
Westbound traffic on East Capitol is being diverted to 40th, so expect some delays.
