Streets closed around Logan Circle

By Mark Berman
Mark Berman

The street closures remain around Logan Circle. The DC Circulator is detouring because of it, so the stops on 14th Street at P Street and at Rhode Island Avenue are closed; depending on where you are, they recommend you use stops on 14th and U streets or 14th and K streets.

8:35 A.M. UPDATE:

Expect problems around Logan Circle: 14th Street is closed at P Street and Rhode Island Avenue is closed at 14th Street in Northwest due to police activity.

8:30 A.M. UPDATE:

-- There's an accident on the Inner Loop at Old Georgetown Road, so expect problems there.

-- The Inner Loop is also congested at S. Van Dorn Street.

-- I-66 East still has backups at the Beltway and at various other points en route to the Beltway, so add a little time to your commute this morning if you head that way.

7:55 A.M. UPDATE:

18th Street and Rhode Island Avenue in Northeast has fully reopened and the accident cleared from earlier this morning.

7:45 A.M. UPDATE:

-- I-66 East has several bad backups: There's congestion at Chain Bridge Road, the Beltway and approaching the District.

-- I-395 North is also backed up at several points before Washington Boulevard.

-- Crews appear to be getting ready to tow one of the cars involved in this morning's accident at 18th Street and Rhode Island Avenue in Northeast.

7:15 A.M. UPDATE:

There's an accident at 18th Street and Rhode Island Avenue in Northeast, so avoid the area if you can. Expect delays if you still need to approach this vicinity.

The traffic camera showed that traffic is apparently partially blocked, but there aren't any backups visible right now. Still, head a bit north or south to avoid this stretch if you can.

6:55 A.M. UPDATE:

-- There's an accident on the Outer Loop at River Road, so expect some delays approaching this area.

-- Congestion on the Inner Loop gets bad as you approach Gallows Road.

-- An accident on I-66 West after George Mason Drive is blocking the right lane and one of the shoulders. Expect delays there as well.

6:30 A.M. UPDATE:

-- An accident on I-66 East at Sudley Road could cause major problems. It's blocking the left lane, left center lane and left shoulder. This is generally a congested area anyway, so expect to see some delays as you approach the area.

-- There's an accident on the Outer Loop at Colesville Road that could also cause some delays.

After all of the headaches we saw with yesterday morning's commute, let's hope this morning is a little easier on travelers trying to get to work. We're in for a sunny morning with temperatures in the 50s, so that's something. The power outages appear to have been solved and most of, if not all, the debris cleared. Let us know what you see out there and check back here throughout the morning for updates on the morning commute.

Yesterday, I checked out the construction site on Rock Creek Parkway at Calvert Street that Dr. Gridlock reported on earlier this week. It's really tightening up traffic in the area, so you can expect some delays if you head that way. Remember, during the morning rush, the Cathedral Avenue and Woodley Road ramps to the southbound parkway are closed. Between 6:30 and 10 a.m., traffic can enter the Calvert Street ramp (adjacent to the Shoreham Hotel) and proceed to the southbound parkway.

If you can't get onto Rock Creek Parkway in this vicinity while it's southbound-only in the morning, you might want to consider hopping on the roadway at a later time. Try heading south and jumping on at P Street, for example (it might take a little while to head south on Connecticut Street or Wisconsin Avenue to make your way to P Street, but at least it gets you onto Rock Creek).

I tried to enter the Calvert Street exit this morning at 9:05AM and it was completely blocked off with a detour sign and a police officer posted. Is this going to be a daily occurrence or was it just today?
