Outer Loop backed up in VA

By Mark Berman

8:15 A.M. UPDATE:

I-66 West is backed up at Sycamore Street in Arlington, while eastbound I-66 is slow in the same area. The Outer Loop is still congested near Telegraph Road, while the Inner Loop is crawling as you approach I-66.

7:45 A.M. UPDATE:

The vehicle fire on the Inner Loop in Maryland has been cleared. Meanwhile, the Outer Loop remains backed up near Telegraph Road.

7:30 A.M. UPDATE:

There's a vehicle fire on the Inner Loop near the exit for southbound MD 295/B.W. Parkway (exit 22). No lanes are reported blocked, but such things can cause delays and the like, so be aware.

I-66 East is now also backed up at Nutley Street, in addition to Chain Bridge and Sudley roads.

7:05 A.M. UPDATE:

A pedestrian was struck in the 7100 block of Georgia Avenue in Northwest, according to D.C. Fire and EMS. This is on the east side of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, near where Georgia Avenue and Dahlia Street intersect.

The disabled vehicle appears cleared from the Outer Loop at Telegraph Road. However, some delays and congestion remains, so expect issues in that spot.

Meanwhile, I-95 North remains very crowded approaching the Springfield Interchange, while I-66 East is backed up at Sudley and Chain Bridge roads.

6:35 A.M. UPDATE:

The disabled vehicle on the Outer Loop/I-95 South is blocking the southbound exit ramp for Telegraph Road (exit 176). Traffic is even more backed up now.

I-95 North is also pretty backed up nearing the Springfield Interchange, while I-66 East is slowing down as you near Sudley Road.

6:20 A.M. UPDATE:

A disabled vehicle on I-95 South/the Outer Loop at Telegraph Road is blocking the right lane and causing backups.

The accidents on I-270 South at Shady Grove Road and I-95 South at the Intercounty Connector have both been cleared.

ORIGINAL POST:

Good morning, commuters. We're in for yet another cold one, though it won't be quite as miserable as it was yesterday. As usual when it's cold and windy out, be wary of potential freezing on the roads and downed trees and wires. Check back here throughout the morning for updates on the headaches awaiting you on your commute.

There's an accident on I-270 South at Shady Grove Road. There's also an accident on I-95 South at the Intercounty Connector, which is blocking one of the shoulders.

Comments

Mark,

The commute down MacArthur and over the Whitehurst was HORRENDOUS this AM (backed up all the way to Resevoir). A friend was stuck on 16th St for 1/2 hour. Was there anything in particular accounting for these?

This is my worst AM commute in memory (about 10 years of battling DC traffic).
