D.C.: Create shoveling teams
District officials recently urged residents to organize teams to clear sidewalks of snow. The city requires both residential and commercial property owners to clear the sidewalks around their property within 24 hours after a snowfall.
"Anyone who endured last winter here knows that having help shoveling snow makes the job a lot easier than doing it alone," said William O. Howland Jr., director of the District Department of Public Works.
"Many of our residents are elderly or disabled and need their neighbors' help," added Gabe Klein, director of the District Department of Transportation. "That's why we are asking you to volunteer your services and make winter a little easier on everyone."
