Parking enforcement for holidays

By Mark Berman
Mark Berman

If you're still in town for the holidays and wondering what the rules are about parking, look no further. Here's a roundup of some of the parking rules and restrictions:

The District
There will be no enforcement of parking meters, residential parking and rush hour lane restrictions on Friday, Dec. 24, and Saturday, Dec. 25. Ditto Friday, Dec. 31, and Saturday, Jan. 1. Also, the DPW will not tow abandoned vehicles, if that's your cup of tea.

Alexandria
Parking meters and timed restrictions will be enforced on Dec. 24, but suspended on Dec. 25. The city has not announced plans for New Year's Day, but typically parking enforcement and restrictions are lifted on that day. Meanwhile, you can find parking guidelines for the city's First Night Alexandria event here.

Arlington
Parking meters not enforced on Dec. 24-25 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1.

Montgomery County
All of the county's on-street parking meters and facilities do not require payment on Friday, Dec. 24, and Saturday, Dec. 25, as well as Friday, Dec. 31, and Saturday, Jan. 1.

Howard County
Parking meters and regulations will be in effect Friday, Dec. 24, and Friday, Dec. 31, but parking meters will be free on Saturday, Dec. 25.

Loudoun County
This varies depending on the particular jurisdiction, according to the county officials. Check with your town before heading out.

Prince George's and Prince William counties
At this time, we weren't able to lock down information regarding Prince George's and Prince William counties, so if you're driving around those areas it's best to check before you head out.

Tremendous! The one day out of the year when it's civilized to park in D.C. Shades of the good old days of Mayor Barely.
