Inner Loop lane blocked in VA

By Mark Berman
Mark Berman

8:50 A.M. UPDATE:

A vehicle fire on the inner loop just before the American Legion Bridge (on the Virginia side) is blocking the right lane and right shoulder. Expect delays approaching this spot.

I-66 East is still slow at Sudley and Chain Bridge roads, while the inner loop is also still slow around Telegraph Road and I-66.

8:25 A.M. UPDATE:

The inner loop is also slowing down as you approach I-66, so be aware of that if you haven't left yet.

There's also an accident at New York Avenue and Brentwood Parkway in Northeast Washington, so there might be traffic related to that.

8:10 A.M. UPDATE:

In addition to delays on I-66 East and I-395 North, the inner loop is still backed up at Telegraph Road and I-95 North is slow approaching the Springfield Interchange.

8 A.M. UPDATE:

I-66 East is still backed up at Sudley, but now there are also delays as you approach Chain Bridge Road. I-395 North is also pretty slow around Duke Street.

7:35 A.M. UPDATE:

I-95 North is really backed up approaching the Springfield Interchange. I-66 East is still very slow around Sudley Road.

7:05 A.M. UPDATE:

The disabled vehicle has been cleared from the outer loop in Maryland.

The accident on I-66 East before Sudley Road is now just blocking the left shoulder, but backups remain as you approach the area.

The inner loop is slow approaching Telegraph Road.

6:40 A.M. UPDATE:

There's a disabled vehicle on the outer loop at U.S. 29/Colesville Road. It's only blocking the shoulder, but could cause some delays.

6:15 A.M. UPDATE:

The I-270 North lanes have reopened. On I-66 East, an accident before Sudley Road is blocking the left lane and left center lane. Backups are already starting.

ORIGINAL POST:

Good morning, commuters. Today's our last day with temperatures hitting the 40s for a while, so enjoy it while you can. We're in the home stretch of the first week back from the holidays, so hopefully everyone's adjusted to going back to work. Check back here through the morning for updates on the headaches awaiting you durin the morning rush.

As for the roads so far: There was a disabled vehicle on the inner loop at G.W. Parkway, but it has been cleared. Meanwhile, in Maryland, a utility problem is still blocking southbound Carroll Avenue/MD 195 at Jefferson Avenue in Takoma Park. Roadwork is blocking two lanes on I-270 North at the Falls Road exit.
