Metro plans memorial for fallen
Metro employees who lost their lives "in the line of duty" over the 35-year history of the transit agency are to be honored on Monday, when Metro plans to unveil a memorial pylon dedicated to the employees at Metro Center Station, according to Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place at 11:45 a.m., and families of the employees have been invited to attend, Farbstein said. She declined to provide the number of employees who lost their lives, but said their names would be on the pylon.
Two of those late employees, automatic train control technicians Jeff Garrard and Sung Duk Oh, were killed in an accident a year ago this week when a three-ton truck moving backwards hit them on the tracks near Rockville Station.
