29th Street Bridge closing Thurs.
The District Department of Transportation plans to close the 29th Street Bridge over the C&O Canal on Thursday to begin reconstructing the span.
The bridge, located between K and M streets NW, is scheduled to be closed until January, officials said. The work was delayed last month due to the weather.
The reconstruction is part of a $6 million project, funded by federal and local funds, to renovate three bridges, including the Thomas Jefferson and 30th Street bridges. Those two bridges can be used as alternate routes.
The work on the 29th Street Bridge will take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
DDOT said local access will available to 29th Street from both K and M streets, and a temporary pedestrian bridge will be available on the west side of the span.
