Escalator problem at Dupont

7:10 p.m. Update: WUSA reports that the problem was caused by rainwater leaking into an escalator motor and causing it to smoke.

6:42 p.m. Update: D.C. Fire/EMS officials say they are investigating an escalator issue at Dupont Circle Station, along with Metro. The problem is described as a possible electrical issue with no injuries.

6:40 p.m: Metro says the Orange and Blue line delays have cleared.

5:30 p.m. Update: Riders from around the Metro system are reporting delays and bag checks. There is a line to get in to Foggy Bottom Station and a switch problem outside Stadium-Armory is causing backups. Users are also reporting bag checks at Archives-Navy Memorial, Franconia-Springfield and Huntington stations.

4:40 p.m. Update: Metro says the problem at Wheaton has been resolved but delays continue.

4:30 p.m. Update: A train malfunction at Wheaton means delays for Red Line riders headed in the direction of Shady Grove.

Original post: A switch malfunction outside of Stadium-Armory Station is causing delays in both directions on the Orange Line.

Meathead police officers checking bags, yup, a terrorist would definitely wait in line for that...
