Beltway lane blocked in VA

By Mark Berman
Mark Berman

9:15 A.M. UPDATE:

The inner loop's left lane and left shoulder remain blocked at the exit for U.S. 1/Jefferson Davis Highway in Alexandria.

The inner loop of the Beltway is backed up near I-66.

I-395 North is very slow at the 14th Street Bridge.

I-95 North is congested approaching the Franconia Springfield Parkway.

The Beltway traffic in Maryland has eased considerably at this point in the commute.

Westbound New York Avenue/U.S. 50 is pretty jammed up at Bladensburg Road.

8:50 A.M. UPDATE:

An accident on the outer loop of the Beltway at the exit for U.S. 1/Jefferson Davis Highway in Alexandria is blocking the left lane and left shoulder.

8:35 A.M. UPDATE:

Congestion on the outer loop of the Beltway has eased by Telegraph Road. The inner loop is still backed up at I-66, while eastbound I-66 is jammed up approaching the Beltway. I-66 East is also slow around Sudley Road.

In Maryland, the Beltway still has some spots of congestion near Connecticut and New Hampshire avenues. The outer loop is particularly slow by Seven Locks Road.

8:15 A.M. UPDATE:

A gas leak at 2683 Douglas Road in Southeast is causing the evacuation of multiple buildings, according to the D.C. Fire and EMS. Emergency vehicles are heading there, so expect some traffic headaches in this area.

8:10 A.M. UPDATE:

The inner and outer loops are backed up around Telegraph Road in Virginia.

There are also still a lot of Beltway backups in Maryland. The inner loop is slow near River Road, while the outer loop is backed up by University Boulevard.

7:50 A.M. UPDATE:

The outer loop lane has reopened at Telegraph Road, while the shoulder is still blocked. There will be some congestion in that area.

The inner loop of the Beltway is pretty sluggish on both sides of I-66 and to the west of the Springfield Interchange, so if you haven't left yet anticipate a lengthier commute.

The inner loop lanes north of River Road have reopened, but traffic is still snarled at multiple inner loop spots in Maryland. Expect delays and bad backups.

7:30 A.M. UPDATE:

I-95 North is very, very backed up right now approaching the Springfield Interchange.

7:20 A.M. UPDATE:

An accident on the outer loop of the Beltway at Telegraph Road is blocking the left lane and left shoulder.

7:10 A.M. UPDATE:

The inner loop of the Beltway has heavy congestion in multiple parts of Maryland this morning, stemming from earlier accidents that blocked lanes and left bad backups. There are issues near University Boulevard, New Hampshire Avenue and River Road right now. The only lane closures right now are two blocked inner loop lanes north of River Road.

7 A.M. UPDATE:

The accident on the inner loop near University Boulevard is now just the shoulder, as all lanes have reopened there.

There are still two inner loop lanes blocked north of River Road.

6:53 A.M. UPDATE:

We've got multiple lane closures on the inner loop of the Beltway in Montgomery County: An accident is blocking two inner loop lanes north of River Road, while another accident is blocking two lanes and the shoulder near University Boulevard.

6:40 A.M. UPDATE:

The left lane and left shoulder have reopened on I-395 North at Glebe Road.

6:30 A.M. UPDATE:

The left lane and left shoulder are still blocked on I-395 North at Glebe Road, causing considerable backups.

I-95 North is jammed up before the Springfield Interchange.

The shoulder remains blocked on the inner loop of the Beltway before Old Georgetown Road, with some residual traffic backed up behind that spot.

6:15 A.M. UPDATE:

A disabled vehicle on I-395 North at Glebe Road is blocking the left lane and left shoulder.

6:12 A.M. UPDATE:

The inner loop lanes have reopened before Old Georgetown Road. One of the shoulders is still blocked, and there are still considerable backups approaching the area, but traffic is moving again.
