Richmond-VRE buses to be cut

By Jennifer Buske

The bus service that currently connects Richmond-area residents with Virginia Railway Express trains will be discontinued, VRE officials said Tuesday.

The service, which will stop March 28, is provided by the GRTC Transit System. About 80 people use the buses each weekday to travel north on Interstate 95 to Fredericksburg and connect with VRE. VRE officials said this decision came from GRTC Transit and is based on funding issues.

GRTC has scheduled a meeting March 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to hear comments about the discontinuation of the service. The meeting will be at the RideFinders Office, located at 1111 E. Main. St. in Richmond.

People who are unable to attend can send comments to Larry Hagin, GRTC Transit System at 301 E. Belt Blvd, Richmond, VA 23224. He can also be reached at 804-358-3871 or at lhagin@ridegrtc.com.

For information on other commuter options, contact RideFinders at 804-643-RIDE.
