Union Station could add stairs
A Metro study of ways to relieve congestion at Union Station has been completed, with two possible solutions under consideration. The more extensive one would take a simple step that has increasingly been clamored for by riders: Adding stairs where currently there are very short and often broken-down escalators.

Storms may make travel dangerous
Fierce storms may rip through the Washington region today, according to The Post's Capital Weather Gang, bring hail, wind gusts of up to 70 mph, flash flooding and even tornadoes, making driving conditions dangerous. A tornado watch is in effect from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

VRE surpasses 20,000 daily riders

Lawmakers request Dulles rail audits
U.S. Rep Frank Wolf (R-Va), along with U.S. Rep Tom Latham (R-Iowa) on Tuesday requested an annual audit of the Metrorail extension to Dulles International Airport and Ashburn in Loudoun County as a way to prevent cost overruns and ensure the project is completed on schedule.

Amtrak ridership increases steadily
Amtrak ridership has risen for 15 months in a row, and last month marked its best January ever with 2.1 million passengers. In seven of the last eight years, it has set yearly records, and carried 28.7 million riders in fiscal year 2010.
