A group focused on historic preservation inside the central city that was a vocal opponent of a streetcar system that, like the original system, would involve the construction of overhead wires along some major roads, has taken a broader look at the under-construction transit mode in a 91-page report.
Streetcar-related construction work could cause a traffic headache in Northeast Washington today. The District Department of Transportation will close 7th Street between H and G streets from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for the installation of streetcar tracks across the intersection of 7th and H streets.
District Department of Transportation Director Gabe Klein will take questions online in a live chat at 12:00 pm today. "Residents and anyone else interested in transportation in the city are invited to join or follow the discussion," the Department said.
Transportation officials from Arlington and Fairfax counties gathered community comments regarding the five-mile Columbia Pike Streetcar plan as they prepare the documentation to apply for federal funding.
Fourth Street NE will be closed between H and G Streets Thursday and Friday between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm to accommodate installation of streetcar tracks at the 4th and H streets intersection.
