Georgetown to play Missouri this fall

For the first time in almost 30 years, Georgetown and the University of Missouri will meet in a college basketball game Nov. 30 in Kansas City, the Hoyas have announced.

The teams, which will play at 9 p.m. EST in the John McLendon Classic, last met in 1982. (via SB Nation)

The Hoyas will play in the Charleston Classic Nov. 18-21 (with George Mason, North Carolina State and others); Dec. 9 at Temple; and Dec. 23 at Memphis.

The Hoyas are also rumored to have a date with Old Dominion on Nov. 12 or 13.

Great sports moments in Friday the 13th history

Matt Bonesteel, who edits college and soccer, presents:

  • 1906 - Cub's Pitcher Jack Taylor ends a string of completing 202 games (187 complete, 15 relief) by Dodgers in 3rd inning. BAD LUCK!
  • 1910 - Dodgers & Pirates play to 8-8 tie, both have 38 at bats, 13 hits, 12 assists, 2 errors, 5 strikeouts, 3 walks, 1 pass ball & 1 hit by pitch. WACKY!
  • 1986 - United States Football League standout Herschel Walker signed to play with the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. HE WOULD SOON HAUNT THE VIKINGS!
  • 1988 - Boston Red Sox win AL record 24 straight home games. THAT NEVER HAPPENS!

A VH-1 "Behind the Music" is next

Paul the Octopus, the headline-grabbing critter whose World Cup picks were so money, reportedly has been unfazed by fame, but you knew that was going to change. He is now a "multimillion brand," according to the agent who reps him (and how often do they exaggerate?).

Paul has a deal in place for an interactive book, in which, like Nostradamus, he'll predict people's futures. Next up: unfortunate arrest and rehab.

There's almost real football tonight

It's only preseason, but there's a new coach, a new quarterback and a bunch of other reasons to watch the Redskins open the preseason against the Bills tonight at FedEx Field. We'll have a live chat here beginning at 7, so join us. It's Friday the 13th, you need to stay in tonight and do this.

Campbell's performance seems familiar

Jason Campbell, the Redskins' former quarterback, and his new team "beat"* the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night and Dan Steinberg was not impressed.

Colt "Cult of" Brennan did not play, which bodes ill for his future in Oakland.

*It's preseason. Zzzzzzzz.

DT-sized bear stalks Oben

Roman Oben's days bear3.jpgof wrestling giant creatures as an NFL lineman are over, so he opted to merely photograph a bear that invaded his neighbor's garbage. He lives in "Soprano"land, if you're wondering whether you and the neighbors should consider bear patrol.
