Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin remains hospitalized
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin remains hospitalized after collapsing during practice Thursday because of a migraine. According to his teammates, who tweeted after visiting him Thursday evening in an Edina, Minn., hospital, his condition had improved.
Vikings wide receiver Bernard Berrian tweeted that "Percy's doin fine everyone," adding, "Prayers still goin out though."
"Just left hospital after visiting Percy he was upbeat while I was there," teammate Greg Lewis tweeted. "He is resting now. Please pray for him and his family."
"Percy appreciates everyone's concern," Vikings Coach Brad Childress said in a statement issued by the team. "He is alert and resting comfortably, but will remain in the hospital overnight."
Harvin, who has battled migraines since he was 10 and sought treatment last year at the Mayo Clinic, had not practiced for two weeks because of migraines, returning to the field only Monday. Suffering another attack Thursday, he managed to return to the field and looked up to the sky to field a punt. He doubled over, vomited and seemed momentarily unresponsive and was taken to the hospital. The scene was so disturbing for players that the rest of practice was called off.
"I don't know how to classify [the episode]," Childress said Thursday. "Not reallly a seizure but he had some trouble over here. I'd be remiss if I tried to qualify it one way or the other. He seemed like he was stable. Shugs [head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman], Dr. [Sheldon] Burns and Dr. [Chris] Larson were all with him right there and Shugs and Dr. Burns rode to the hospital with him. ... As we say those things [migraines] can be debilitating and obviously that one hit and hit hard. It's always scary for all of our guys when you see a teammate struggling with whatever. We said a quick prayer for him."
