PGA Championship 2010: Tiger Woods works with swing coach after 1st round

Updated 9:46 a.m.

Fog has delayed the start of play for the second day of the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis.

Updated 8:18 a.m.

After an up-and-down first round that left him three shots back of the leaders in the PGA Championship Thursday, Tiger Woods hit the practice range and right beside him was Sean Foley, a swing coach who has not officially hired on with Woods.

The only others present, according to the Golf Digest report, were Woods' caddie Steve Williams and his agent Mark Steinberg.

Woods was coy earlier in the week when asked if he'd hired Foley, one of Golf Digest's top 20 coaches under 40, after his disastrous 78th-place finish last week in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

Steinberg denied that Foley has been hired. "Sean is not Tiger's official swing coach," he told John Hawkins of Golf Digest. "As Tiger said in the media center earlier this week, he asked Sean to take a look at Tiger's swing. That is what Sean is doing."

After getting three birdies on the first four holes, Tiger Woods managed a 1-under par 71 in the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis., lending no clarity to Corey Pavin's Ryder Cup team decision.

Francesco Molinari and Bubba Watson are among the leaders after an early fog delay pushed start times back three hours. They posted 4-under 68s. Also at 4-under were Ernie Els, Matt Kucher and Nick Watney. Els and Kucher completed 14 holes of play, Watney 11. They and the rest of Thursday's late starters will finish their rounds at 7 a.m CDT Friday (foggy conditions permitting).

Six golfers are tied for second at 3-under and 12 are 2-under. Woods was in an accustomed place for him of late -- in a lofty leaderboard spot. Joining him at 1-under, as are Phil Mickelson and 21 others. Woods will tee off at 4:05 p.m. CDT Friday; Mickelson at 11:15 a.m.
