Vuvuzelas banned by FIBA for basketball world championships

After being pooh-poohed for a month of World Cup play, vuvuzelas are being banned.

FIBA, basketball's governing body, said Monday that vuvuzelas will be banned at the world championship tournament that begins Aug. 18 in Turkey.

The reason cited by FIBA isn't annoyance; the organization fears that fans could suffer hearing damage if the horns are used indoors.

Vuvuzelas are "smiply not appropriate in a confined space such as a basketball arena," FIBA secretary-general Patrick Baumann told the Associated Press.

Hair grows. What can I say? A regular on Tracee Hamilton's First Things First chat apparently is too shy to ask me in the comments here, so I'll make like Ms. Helpful and answer...

Q: Happiness is...clicking on the sports section, looking at the week ahead in chats, and seeing five straight days of FSF (or, as we call it in my house, Hamiltime!) on the schedule. Woohoo! But I also noticed the announcement of Cindy's new blog. I love a new blog, of course -- doesn't everybody? -- but is it wrong that I was mostly interested to see that she's grown her hair out, and that it made me wonder what kind of shampoo she uses?

Tracee's A: You should ask Cindy on her new blog; I'm sure she'd tell you!

My answer: Shampoo is for losers.
