Rex Ryan rips DeAngelo Hall in latest 'Hard Knocks'
Updated at 10:43 a.m.
HBO's "Hard Knocks" is losing a bit of steam, what with the Jets struggling and the real season approaching and all, but there were a few highlights related to the local Burgundy and Gold.
For instance, Rex Ryan explains to the world (in terms that are graphic, but less graphic than Rex usually is -- it's not TV, it's HBO) why his brother, Rob, got rid of DeAngelo Hall's "posterior":
Jerry McDonald, who covers the Raiders for the Bay Area News Group, thinks Rex may be full of it.
If Rex Ryan thinks brother Rob had the juice to get rid of DeAngelo Hall, then he's sorely mistaken . . .
Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network tweeted: I agree Jerry.....dead on...
And special teams coach Mike Westoff is fairly succinct in his feelings about the Redskins. "Redskins. [Bleep] them."
Vernon Davis, fight in a headline again
When Vernon Davis mixed it up with Michael Crabtree during a San Francisco 49ers practice Wednesday, Coach Mike Singletary, pioneer of the pantsless pep talk, stepped in. (He's been rather critical of Davis in the past, sending him to the locker room during a game last year, so that must have been interesting.)
"There is no more elephants in the room," Singletary said. "The elephant was exposed."
Neither Davis nor Crabtree would comment on the dustup. "They were both wrong," Singletary said. "And we will not have distractions on this team. Vernon forgot temporarily that that is not allowed. We don't do that. We don't treat family like that. We don't disrespect each other. I just needed to remind him that's not who we are. He's fine. He did a great job. He's one of the captains. He did the right thing, but he did it the wrong way."
Perhaps Davis, a noted curling enthusiast, was fighting with Crabtree over the shot rock. This wouldn't be the first curling altercation to spill over into an NFL locker room. (via Matt Rennie)
More Tar Heels suspensions?
The suspension marks the latest twist during a turbulent summer for North Carolina, which is preparing to play against LSU on Saturday without up to 16 players, sources said Wednesday night.
The school is exploring the possibility of "rolling suspensions" with the NCAA, which would allow them to spread losses over multiple games.
