Ryder Cup pairings: Phil Mickelson goes first; Tiger Woods is third

8 a.m.: Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar vs. Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell;
8:15 a.m.: Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods vs. Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher;
(Why, Pavin was asked, was Woods third? "Because the first two spots are filled already.")

The TV schedule
Friday: 2:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. ESPN
Saturday: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. NBC

The US is hoping a 2-0 start can make up for Tiger's inevitable 6 and 5 loss.

I like the first 3 pairings. Just wish that Furyk was going out with Bubba rather than untried rookie Overton. But hope we sweep 4-0. GO USA!!

It does not help that a man who now seems to be improvising as he goes along captains this U.S. team. Pavin could not explain why he thought the No. 8 match was so important location for Woods, as he could not explain why his players kept leaving putts short all day while the Europeans meant that if they reach'm in the hole.
