Tim Hasselbeck: Football with pink ribbon decal is 'a disaster'

It's just a small pink ribbon on the official NFL football, but former quarterback Tim Hasselbeck says players tell him the ball is "a disaster."

bcfootball.jpg"No one's talking about this," Hasselbeck said on ESPN's "Mike and Mike" show. "They're playing with these breast cancer awareness balls. These balls are brand new, right out of the bag. Now they get slick -- I texted a couple quarterbacks during the [Monday night] game. They all said, 'These balls have been a disaster.' So I think that's something to note."

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told Pro Football Talk, via email: "They are not different."

There were four fumbles in the Vikings-Jets game, which was delayed because of a thunderstorm in New Jersey: three were by Brett Favre (who lost two of them) and one was by LaDainian Tomlinson. Twenty of Favre's 34 passes were incomplete; 23 of Mark Sanchez's 44 were incomplete.

Most footballs associated with Tim Hasselbeck were a disaster.

What's the matter, Timmy? Afraid your masculinity is going to take a hit if the colour pink is anywhere within a 100-mile radius of a football field?

I don't believe it was Tim H. that was saying the balls were slick. Is mom calling you for dinner?

Those stats from the Vikings Jets game don't mean jack because it was a freaking monsoon. Any balls get fumbled and dropped in that kind of weather.

Insider's say Tim wasn't speaking of footballs when he said the "Balls" were slick. Besides Tim is a disaster just like the balls he is speakin of.

I don't know anything about Tim Hassselbeck's balls, but I do think that they've gone overboard with the Breast Cancer Awareness publicity. Footballs? Give me a break! There are hundreds of other diseases that need the publicity/support--and I say all this as one who had breast cancer (I hate the term "survivor" for some reason--maybe it's all the hoopla and publicity associated with that term).

I agree with whodunit. Its like they commercialized breast cancer. Are people buying all this pink stuff because they think its cute and losing track of the seriousness of this disease? Or are they really aware of the realities? Someone's making a ton of money on this stuff, too. Apparently, only a portion of the proceeds are donated to breast cancer research.
