Chan Gailey: Shawne Merriman's injury isn't major, but may keep him out Sunday

By Cindy Boren

Shawne Merriman hurt his leg 10 minutes into his first practice with the Buffalo Bills, an injury that Coach Chan Gailey said "wasn't anything major."

"Shawne put 10 pounds on his body and went out there and had a little strain," Gailey said after practice Wednesday. "We didn't want to chance anything so we're getting it checked out completely and we'll see what happens from there, but it wasn't anything major."

The injury means that Merriman, who was not available to the media, may not play Sunday against Detroit.

"It hurts him, his chances go down tremendously, they do," Gailey said.
