benard.JPGBenard, Browns spokesman Neal Gulkis said, is stable, alert and undergoing more tests.

At the time of his collapse, Benard, 25, was seated and talking on a cell phone. His teammates initially thought he was joking, then trainers rushed to his aid, according to reports. He was conscious and taken by ambulance to a hospital around 12:30.

The Browns play the Jets on Sunday in Cleveland. Benard leads the Browns with 4 1/2 sacks.
