Former Redskins QB Colt Brennan in serious condition with head trauma, broken ribs, clavicle

By Cindy Boren

Former Redskins quarterback Colt Brennan is in serious condition in a Honolulu hospital with head trauma, broken ribs, and a broken left clavicle sustained in an auto accident, his father told a Honolulu television station Friday.

"We know there's three or four broken ribs, left clavicle and head trauma. I think the word we got is I won't say stable but the next critical to stable type situation right now," Terry Brennan told KHON by telephone from his Irvine, Calif., home, "and they're still monitoring the issues with the head injuries." He and Colt's mother plan to fly to Honolulu this morning.

"You know how the doctors are. Everything, you know, from zero to 10 is a 10 until they do more tests," Terry Brennan told KITV. "So it's hard to tell and they're not really saying until they can do more studies."

Brennan suffered the non-life-threatening injuries when the car in which he was riding collided head-on with another Friday on the Big Island. Initially hospitalized in Kona, he was airlifted to Oahu's Queen's Medical Center, which lists his condition as serious.

"We're upset," Terry Brennan told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. "We're hopeful all of the victims are okay. This is our worst nightmare. You always worry about safety, whether you're in Hawaii or on the mainland."

According to police, Brennan's girlfriend Shakti Stream of Kona was driving an SUV that crossed the highway's center line. "She collided head-on with a 1996 Saab sedan that was headed south," Lt. Harold Sumaoang, of the Hawaii County Police Department said. The woman driving the Saab was seriously injured and all three were hospitalized in serious condition. Initial reports that four people were in the accident were incorrect.

"We just need all our good karma and prayers and what have you to go to all three of them," Terry Brennan said.

The exact cause of the crash, which occurred at about 9:30 Friday morning on the Queen Kaahumanu Highway in Makalawena remains under investigation.

Please keep Colt Brennan and his family in your prayers.less than a minute ago via Touiteur

My dear Ms. Boren,

I'm gonna guess that the injured former Redskin played in wait...2008, no wait...2007, no wait...2006, no wait...2005, no wait...2004, no's gotta be 2003. Awww, hell, I can't remember...and neither could you!! Maybe he played so long ago that there are no records showing when he played for the Redskins...that's records...that must be why YOU LEFT OUT THAT LITTLE FACT.

I'm so sorry to read the terrible news about Colt. He and any others hurt in this accident, as well as his family, are in my prayers.

What a Bayou moron,on record I agree with stockjames,toliva89,joew22, what a disgusting, moronic, idiotic, and inaccurate comment from a true ingrate. Many members of the Redskins have no stats, but one. Their direct deposit records from their Redskins paychecks, likely the match to say your deposit records from the Louisiana State Prison system. Best wishes and prayers to Colt, his family and all of those injured in this terrible accident. Louisiana didn't have a chance to blame you for the accident which must have really pissed him off, ignore this a-hole like you have the many doubters in the past, hopes to a speedy recovery and another shot at the NFL.Godspeed

My prayers go out too, both Colt and the entire Brennan family.

Perhaps we could also say a prayer for the nameless woman who was seriously injured by some idiot crossing the center line. Oh right she doesn't play football so who cares.

Hey there's about a thousand accident victims every day between here and Honolulu heveymama, I'm sure you're very concerned about all of them.

Well, hopefully Colt paid attention in class at Hawaii so he can pursue another profession...

Tough break, though. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. Well, maybe LAVirginian, who thinks people don't matter unless they are superstars.

Lotta nasty comments here, what the hell is wrong with you peeps?..
A good kid got hurt, he was prominent in the area for awhile and folks are sorry he's in bad shape. Doesn't mean no one cares about everyone else that got hurt this week. Good of Phillip Daniels to think of him too. Get well soon's ya can, Colt.

what's your tag number? I'm going to follow you around and videotape your driving so I can have a recorded demonstration of how to be a perfect driver. I'm sure you could never be distracted or tired behind the wheel. You always obey the speed limit, too, I bet.

My gosh! Somebody's child is in the hospital fighting for his life. How anyone could be so totally inappropriate, disrespectful, and disturbed as to make light of a head-on collision! You are in the thoughts and prayers of normal people, Colt, family, friends, and other victims. Unfortunately, there is no law against acting like an idiot. Hopefully, enough voices of normal people, people who don't enjoy the suffering of others, can drown out the voices of fools.
