Football beats baseball as "Sunday Night Football" tops World Series ratings

NBC's "Sunday Night Football" was the No. 1 show of the night for the eighth straight week, according to NBC's PR machine.

The matchup of the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints drew an 11.8 overnight rating ... which means it bested Fox's World Series Game 4, which drew a 10.4 overnight rating according to Darren Rovell of MSNBC.

It's believed to be, Rovell tweets, the first time that "primetime NFL game has outrated a World Series game."

Which is as good a reason as any to link to Tom Boswell's 1987 column listing 100 reasons why baseball is superior to football. He's wrong, but it's a good read.
