Terrell Owens, Chad Ochocinco debate the benching of Donovan McNabb

By Cindy Boren

Here's the full clip:

Originally filed at 5:58 p.m. Tuesday

What do a couple of NFL wide receivers -- one of whom was a teammate of Donovan McNabb's in Philadelphia -- think of Mike Shanahan's decision to bench McNabb at the end of the Redskins' game in Dallas Detroit?

Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco (Batman and Robin or Robin and Batman; probably doesn't matter which is which) discussed the benching on "The T.Ocho Show" on Tuesday night on Versus.

Owens found a spot under his own bus for McNabb: "Well, I don't really want to start anything, but I did play in the Super Bowl [with McNabb and the Eagles] and there were rumors where he couldn't get our two-minute offense going at the end of the game. I'm just saying."

Ochocinco was having none of that.

"If anyone else out there feels that Rex Grossman gives the Washington Redskins a better chance than Donovan McNabb to win with two minutes left, they need to slap theyself."

I had no interest in watching that show.

Now I do.

Good clip.

Hey guys look at all elite quarterbacks in the league they all have outstanding wide receivers, except Washington's McNabb, where are the wide receivers? The only time McNabb had a great and talented Wide Receiver Terrell Owens he took the Eagles to the SUPER BOWL. Don't you think he is that great. The Brady's, Farve's, Roethlisberger's, Manning's, Brees' they all have elite good wide receivers, running backs to make it easier for them to mix it up, and offensive linemen to protect them. Do you have to blame a quarterback for not doing well when he is not protected? Do you blame a quarter back when your Wide receivers mediocre at the moment. Do you blame a quarterback when in the game he rushed more yards than your running backs. Shanahan C'MON MAN!!!

No doubt, Cindy and Mike Wise should start a gossip column together, but not in the sports section.

T.O. - that expert on 'team' and integrity. Let's see where he's playing next year.

I heard Tim Hasselbeck say the same thing on espn yesterday. Apparentley its well know throughout the league that McNabb is not in good shape.

T.O. is a little jealous b-i-t-c-h !

Thanks, guys. My fingers type "Dallas" about 174,832 times a year and muscle memory sometimes kicks in.

t.o. need to shut the hell up and analyze is own underachieving 2-5 team. I remember when the late great Sean Taylor (R.I.P #21) used to roam our def.backfield when t.o. was a cowgirl and him shitin in his pants scared to make reception..hmmm the memories!!!

"theyself"? Chad, instead of focusing on Spanish, try concentrating on spelling in English. Jeez!

I really think T.O. has a secret crush on McNabb, he always has something to say about him, sounds like a mancrush to me....

what does saying "theyself" have anything to do with spelling? if you're going to correct someone, please get it right. Argue the point, not the way it is delivered (unless he had no credibility about the subject, but obviously being a pro bowl level NFL player for many years, he does)

Totally agree. But what's worse is that WaPo keeps quoting illiterate athletes verbatim. Portis is probably the worst. Why not just pay an editor? Hate to think of how many kids read these pages and think these guys speak actual English.

Couldn't agree more. Portis needs to go take grammar classes badly. I don't know what they teach at the U., but grammar isn't one of them. Santana speaks in a cringe-worthy manner as well.

So you guys never speak outside of proper English? Never said aint or gonna or gimmie a day in your lives. And you think you have the right to call athletes illiterate? Meanwhile they can spend both of you hater bums in a day while you try to make yourselves feel better on a web blog. I bet they can count. Lets try this, T.O has made about fiddy million in his career. (Thats fifty million for you non illiterates) How much have you two highly intelligent bloggers made? My spin, white people hate seeing wealthy african american athletes who get paid more money playing sports in a year than they do in their careers and its nothing they can do about it but call them names to make themselves feel better about being less successful. When blacks are smart like Obama you call them elitist. When they are down to earth and regular joes like the rest of us you call them illiterate. They cant win with haters like you guys. Most athletes actually have college degrees, even if they use slang. But I guess when you are not trying to impress every hater on a web blog you really dont give a shiiit what they think. You took one quote by Ocho and decided that athletes are illiterate. That statement itself reeks of ignorance. Which is worse?

Bravo! Thanks for saying, what needed to be said. You hit the nail on the head.

T.O. sure does talk a lot. But he doesn't say anything. "There were rumors"? What do YOU say about it? If you're not going to say what you saw, then don't mention the "rumors." You were in the huddle, you donk! Why don't YOU tell us what really happened? I don't watch your show for "rumors" especially about an event you participated in.

Ochocinco is right on. Shanny really messed this one up. And the aftermath this week has been nothing short of Zornian in its complete confusion.
