Ovechkin and Crosby? The price is right.

Now this is a showcase. The showdown comes later

Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby will present a showcase for bidding on "The Price Is Right" at 11 a.m. Monday.

Ovechkin and Crosby will help Jeremy Roenick introduce a showcase that will include, via On Frozen Blog, a trip to Pittsburgh for the Jan. 1 Winter Classic between the Capitals and Penguins, VIP passes to the NHL's New Year's Eve Party in Pittsburgh (woohoo!), field/ice-level access to watch the Caps and Pens practice on Dec. 31 and a new 2011 Honda CR-Z Sport Hybrid car.

Or you should just check out their Winter Classic window:

The Saks Fifth Avenue window across from Rockefeller Center in New York may have spinning snowpersons, which is nice, but the official Winter Classic window at the NBC Experience store just across the street at 30 Rockefeller Center is far superior even if all it has is a giant photo of Ovechkin and Crosby (and even if one of the two players seems to be be wearing lipstick...).

Jets' new mascot: It's Ptrippy the Ptesty Pterydactyl, according to Jason Gay of the Wall Street Journal. There's a drawing of what the mascot might look like and everything. Somewhere, Sal Alosi weeps.

Earl Weaver is alive: A New York Times political column recently said, "Texas Democrats have become the Baltimore Orioles of politics. Somewhere in heaven, Earl Weaver and (former Texas governor) Ann Richards are comparing notes on what went wrong with the teams they left behind."

His demise was news to Earl Weaver. Reached by the Baltimore Sun at his Florida home, Weaver said:

"I'll be damned. All I can do is say, that's false. I'm still here, although my knees have given out, so I don't play golf anymore. I've always said that there were two places that I wouldn't mind dying. One was Memorial Stadium; the other, the golf course.

"Now I've got to wait forever [to go], because both of those places are gone."

Hogs Haven: There's a straggler in the Albert Haynesworth
Photoshop contest and, well, we may just have a winner.

The "Winter Classic" is a moronic publicity stunt.

No way! Love the outdoor hockey. And it's great fun on New Year's Day, when all you want to do is veg.
