Redskins suspend Albert Haynesworth: Twitter reaction

By Cindy Boren

The Redskins have suspended Albert Haynesworth for the last four games of the regular season, saying in a statement released by the team:

"Despite the club's numerous attempts to persuade Albert Haynesworth to abide by the terms of his contract, he has repeatedly refused to cooperate with our coaching staff in a variety of ways over an extended period of time. Among other things, he has consistently indicated to our defensive coaches that he refuses to play in our base defense or on first-down or second-down nickel situations. He has also refused to follow the instructions of our coaches both during weekly practices and during actual games as well.

"Yesterday, when Albert was at Redskin Park, he told our General Manager Bruce Allen that he [Haynesworth] would no longer speak with me. Although suspending any player is not a decision that a head coach enters into lightly, I believe the situation has reached the point where the club clearly has no alternative."

Albert the fall guy. Knew it was coming when the smear campaign was ramping up last night. Haynesworth is a problem but not the only problem. Just a chance for all the "everything is sunny in redskin land" people to deflect the real issues.

I agree with jwzephyr. I don't care that Shanny won a super bowl, his status now is that he is a fired loser. So his strategy is to deflect criticism and blame Albert. Let's not blame Shanny's son trying to change an offensive scheme without the personnel; not Bruce Allen for having college backs starting and arena football WR's; not Haslett for changing to a 3-4 without the right personnel; not Shanny for overseeing this crap. IT'S ALL ALBERT'S FAULT, SEE PEOPLE!!!

jwzephyr - EXACTLY!!!

So what about Albert Hanyesworth. Has he played all year? has he been effective, hell no!!!!!! the guy plays about 1 down per series.

The problem is this team is sorry. When a player like London Fletcher is saying the defense needs to have character, there are problems.

Used to be a custom that once a year, the high priest pushed a goat out into the wilderness with all the sins of the people upon it. The goat was thrown into a gully, as I recall. Seems to me that's what's going on here. Problem is, High Priest Shanahan can't load the Redskins' sins onto Haynesworth. Haynesworth didn't get clobbered by the Giants. Shanahan did.

Time to send the High Priest and his boy wonder out into the wilderness.

I hope that they next try to get back some of that bonus money. If it's possible, go for it. The money is all that fool understands.

sure shammy, it's all fat albert's fault.

dim dan will soon pay millions for a platoon of seeing eye dogs to escort shammy and son to the bench before games.

merge the cards and the skins. then disband the new team.

Mike Shanahan is GARBAGE!! you're like the Wade Phillips of the Redskins! And you've only been in DC 1 freakin SEASON!! His ego is a problem number (1) and the guy is ancient number (2)! We need a young head coach period! Look at the Saints, the Seahawks, the Steelers for crying out loud..all these playoff caliber teams have young head coaches. This was a mistake form the get go and I called it. Mike Shanahan is garbage and so is his 3-4 style def! We went from 4th overall def last season in the 4-3 to DEAD LAST with the 3-4...hello!! Think maybe he made a mistake? I do! He won't admit it of course but, can you blame him? The guy makes terrible decisions and its been told. It happened in Denver and now in DC. Look at Devin Thomas!! Really? what was that in Oct? Now he's with the Giants of course, a division opponent and he's going to work his way to the starting line-up watch!. GREAT! Good job Mike. Whats next with Haynesworth huh? Oh..nevermind, you already suspended the guy for the rest of the season w/ out pay and now watch..he will be traded with in our division, only to come back at YOU and reek havoc on the Skins. Mark my words. You honestly can't tell me that that was the right thing to do? PLAY THE GUY MAN, Hello!? Make him earn ever freakin penny..why not?? Mike you already messed this team up in 1 pathetic season..maybe its time for you to make the change and reconsider coaching! Or maybe put your EGO aside and let these men play and do their jobs! How about that Mr. Almighty and do things my way or else???? YOU were the MISTAKE...not Haynesworth. You only gave him a reason NOT to play for US but, wanna continue to play only to destroy us. You're garbage Mike!!

I know I might be a bit old-fashioned, but if someone played me a gazillion dollars to play a game I would feel obligated to show up in shape to play it, play it the way my boss wanted it played, and give it my ALL. Albert makes too much money for this kind of bs.

I'm kind of surprised at the comments here, but I'm inclined to agree with the bulk of them. Shanahan has to take the blame on this one. His job is to win games, not to carry petty grudges. When you don't play your best players out of vindictiveness, you're only hurting yourself and in this case, the team. The best scenario for both parties was to have Haynesworth playing. He didn't want to be here and we didn't want him here. He needed a good "audition" tape for the rest of the league. At least that way, we could have gotten something for him. We're likely going to get rid of the man for nothing, and it's going to be a real kick in the pants should Haynesworth end up on another NFC East team, only to wreck havoc on us twice a year.

You have this all wrong. All the teams you named that are doing good with young coaches have been built through consistent drafts year after year. When Shannahan was hired, he was hired to change us to become one of "those" teams. Look for O-line and D-line to be overlooked no more.

As far as the 3-4 goes, the 3-4 defense with proper personnel he believes is a better defense. A lot of people like you say "why not stick with 4-3 and switch once we have 3-4 personel." The reason this was done is because its better for all the players to become accustomed to the defense and as rookies and free agents (that fit the 3-4 defense) come in they can learn the defense from the coaches and players that were already here, as opposed to everyone learning a new defense when our offense is ready to go.

As offense goes, they're all learning and getting accustomed to it. As new players come in they will learn from coaches and veterans. The goal is to get the offense and defense to click and start playing well in 3-4 years. You don't ignore linemen for so many years and expect it to magically repair itself in 1 offseason. The fact that we started decent and then started getting injured proves all those 6-7 round picks were just a waste by VC
