Baltimore Ravens fire Jim Zorn as quarterbacks coach

By Cindy Boren

Updated at 6:50 p.m.

The Baltimore Ravens have fired Jim Zorn after one season as the team's quarterbacks coach, according to multiple reports.

The firing, Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun reports, came after a long meeting between Coach John Harbaugh and Zorn earlier this week.

Zorn is the second member of the offensive staff to be let go; the Ravens dumped line coach John Matsko on Jan. 19.

Well hopefully coach Zorn will get a job soon. He is a great guy. I wish him luck.less than a minute ago via twidroyd

So I guess Z-man didn't "blow away" Harbaugh in the post-season interview? Imagine that...

word on the street is that Zorn kept telling Flacco to run consecutive fake FG plays.....

Don't the Skins still owe him some money?

Anyone surprised by this news please stand on your head.

The Ravens hired Sherm Lewis to take over for Zorn and call the plays.

Zorn a fall guy again.Dropped balls by receivers cost the Ravens the game, not Zorn.

The Ravens need to hire the Steelers so they can fire the real persons responsible for them sitting out the last playoff and the Superbowl.
Nina Simone's Baltimore is playing in my mind.

He must still be laughing all the way to Snyder's bank, as he's still getting paid on the Skins payroll. See Deion and Marty as to how to come here, work for Dan, achieve nothing, get overpaid, then leave ... and still get paid. As the Skins continue to lose without you.

you know for real it's Flacco too !! no feet, and no finesse to make a play other than what is called!!! iv'e i mean we"ve seen countless amounts of times where he refuse to show the ability to compensate for a busted play,or to redirect and take a opening with numerous receivers.. over and over he's not like the good young QB's and he lacks the ability to to take advantage of an open man at any given time!! until he steps up we will alway's come up short so some of you fellow's during the off season need to take him out and teach him how to dance!!! this will improve his foot work and contribute to the teams well being so i put it on JOe even though a few passes were dropped!!! he can't even flop on a football in a clutch situation...I saw fear in his eyes the kind that will kill a team.. he needs to get it right or he needs to sit it down!!! our future depend on the QB and maybe just maybe he's not the QB for the job.. so Cam can give him rediculous play's or good play's but if he cannot use his own discretion then we don't need him!!! and if JOHN the Coach H can't see that then get hoim out of there too!! we tired of almost winning against PB!! were tired of having such a good team and coming up short!! so get a true QB and we can win a couple of SUPER BOWLS...so OZZIE PLEASE GET THIS CORRECTED!!!or yall will lose this City! real talk. people are upset with your performance even with the dropped passes the QB is still suppose to work it out!! training day's are over for you joe flacco if you don't do no better this year we are gonna call for your head and the coaches head for staying with you too long!!! 3 years in and we keep getting the same results naw naw team yall gotta back me on this 1 we are tyhe only team that can win against PB and yet we cannot beat them because of our QB and Cam making those boneheaded calls simple and plain
!!! we have something special but the coaches are messing up this great team with a lack of since of reality!!and the city can see it so this is the last year for Flacoo support either he get it or hes gonna get ripped apart ty.

Flacco had better numbers this year, more yards, better TD/INT ratio. Zorn did his job, the Ravens didn't do theirs. So Cam scapegoated him, Harbaugh backed his OC. Good luck to Coach Zorn - a fine coach and a genuinely ethical man.

Somewhere in America, there is a small town high school that Jim Zorn's coaching abilities would fit in nicely. He's a good guy, but appears to be in over his head. I hope things work out for him.

Jim Z is a nice guy.
Am wondering why ROethlisberger is allowed to play football after the repeated accusations of sexual assault against him. Please see the actual police reports at thesmokinggun.com. It seems that if Roethlisberger has no shame and still insists on playing, he should at least donate his $83,000 super bowl bonus to a rape crisis center.

Derrick Mason is no longer a deep threat but a solid possession receiver. Anquan Boldin is a putz for dropping an easy touchdown pass in a game that the Ravens handed to the Steelers. TJ Nohanzamadhah is a putz as well. For this they scapegoat Zorn?

Posted by: Sideswiped | January 28, 2011 6:09 AM | Report abuse

As bad a head coach as Zorn was, he was still much better than Cam Cam, Cam Cameron

I know how it feels. I've been scapegoated at work for stuff that was beyond my control. It doesn't feel good, but it's just politics and you move on. Best of luck to Jim Zorn.

^21^

The Ravens are a joke. They talk more trash about the Redskins then the cowgirls. I'm glad all they do is LOSE in the playoffs. They are the best regular season team in the league. LOL

They won one stinking Super Bowl and they have the nerve to talk trash to us with our 3.

Get a clue Baltimore. It's not about regular season wins, it's about SUPER BOWLS.

At least when the Skins were good they won 3 Bowls.

Skins suck - WINNING on Sundays means everything.

Ravens Playoff team - Winning on sundays should mean nothing. You should be chasing Super Bowls.....like THE STEELERS!!

I liked when zorn put up a little sunshade, and then would throw giant beach balls at the QB while he tried to drop back and pass. it was fun. actual football was a different story. lets go black and maroon!

I am wondering why Ray Lewis gets to play after being INDICTED for MURDER and only after some quick talking by his attorney was he able to plead guilty to obstruction of justice.

Then there is Donte Stallworth and his DUI manslaughter conviction.

I'm not saying the Steelers players are saints, but no fan of the Buzzards should ever complain about them after cheering for such high quality people.

I Redskin fan calling the Ravens a joke. Are you kidding me? I said are you kidding me? When is the last time your team was even in the playoff hunt? Synder has turned this once proud franchise into a sorry excuse for a NFL team!

Posted by: bscoleman | January 28, 2011 12:05 PM | Report abuse

COLUMBIASKINS needs a little background info.

Yes, the Baltimore Ravens have won only one Super Bowl, but that's not the whole story. The Ravens have only been in Baltimore since 1995, when Art Modell moved the existing Cleveland Browns staff and players to the Maryland city. As part of a contentious deal, the Ravens were required to remain inactive for their first three years under their new name. As the Browns, however, the team has been around since 1946 as a founding franchise of the All-American Football League. During those early years, they won four of the league's championships. One of those berths was the result of a perfect season.

The Redskins were previously known as the Boston Braves and have been around since 1932 as members of the NFL, which co-existed with the AAFL until the merger in 1970. They won two championships during their first 38 years and three since then. If you do the math, you can see that the 'Skins have won 5 league championships over the course of 79 years and the Ravens 5 during a span of 50. Make of these stats what you will, but be aware how simplistic it is to say "The Ravens have won only one Super Bowl."

As a legitimate life-long 'Skins fan, I want to speak out on behalf of many of my fellow devotees when I say that COLUMBIASKINS' ignorance and intellectual limitations don't extend to all of us, thank god.

There's only one quality NFL team right now that plays its games in Maryland, and its not the Redskins...

When will the Redskins win their next Super Bowl? Quoth the Raven: NEVERMORE! AWK AWK AWK!

Posted by: Illini | January 28, 2011 2:37 PM | Report abuse

Golly gee whillikers. I NEVER saw THIS coming.

And silly me, I thought Jason Campbell was the reason our offense looked so bad during the Zorn years. Dagnabbit, I spent all those years trashing the QB when it was REALLY an inept guy telling him what to do. And how best to do it...since Zorn was the head coach AND was Jasons QB coach too!!!

Sheesh! And Zorn CAN'T EVEN KEEP A QB COACHING JOB???

MAYBE it was the COACH AFTER ALL...and that Jason Campbell guy might be OK.

Well, the real barometer would be if Jason is sill losing games and putting up horrible numbers. Oh, he's not losing. His numbers are about middle of the pack with no known wide receivers on his offense.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...
