Michigan fires Rich Rodriguez

By Cindy Boren

Saying "I believe this is the best decision for the future of Michigan's football program," Athletic Director Dave Brandon announced that Rich Rodriguez has been fired.

"I have completed a systematic and thorough review of our football program and believe that a change in leadership is necessary," Brandon said, according to the Associated Press. "We have not achieved at the level that I expect."

Rodriguez went 15-22 in three seasons at Michigan and failed to beat rivals Ohio State and Michigan State.

"Rich is a good person and coach," Brandon said. "It's unfortunate that it didn't work out at Michigan, but I'm sure that Rich and his staff will find opportunities at other institutions. I wish Rich and his family all the best in the future."

I would say his team beat itself an awful lot.

Maybe they can dig up Bo and prop him on the sideline...he'd be more alive than that Defense that took the field this year...

I would take Rodriguez at Maryland....oh yeah I forgot that they already hired some no-name coach that no top level athlete is going to play for...

Damn Dave...you read my mind. Maryland once again shoots itself in the foot by hiring some clown instead of waiting and doing a thorough search for a good coach. In my opinion searching for a replacement for a coach that really didn't need replacing. Are we sure Dan Snyder isn't running the athletic department at Md.

Live from Los Angeles! This morning I was watching ESPN and Todd McShay called out Jesse Palmer for his comments that Rich Rodriguez is not a Michigan Man when actually Michican's famous coach Bo Schembechler did not go to the University of Michigan. This shows that top American institutions such as politics, business, and entertainment do not welcome Minorities as leaders in this country. Unfortunately there are a lot of UNCLE TOMS in the Black, Hispanic, and Asian communities who go along with the CHARACTER ASSASINATION of top minority leaders who don't fit the agenda of whatever profession THEY are in! For the people advocating the firing of Coach Rich Rodriguez I hope YOU get the coach the school deserves but it really reflects badly on this country!!!

Big_bors - you are an idiot. Why is it always about race??? Maybe he wasn't a Michigan man because he went 15-22 and NEVER beat a rival!?!?! Lets say the record was reversed and he beat Ohio State Twice, my guess he would still be there. How is that racist???

This was not about race but about the fact that Rodriquez completely misunderstood the importance of alumni relations and the history of football at Michigan. Football is a religion at Michigan and the coach just did not get it; instead he thought it was the party sport that he had been so successful with at WVU. Time to call Jim Harbaugh!

We should all be very thankful that Maryland did NOT hire a no-class bum like RichRod. Even if he had gone 13-0 all three seasons, he would still be a no-class bum who deserved to be fired.
