Orioles pitcher Alfredo Simon surrenders to police in Dominican Republic

By Cindy Boren

Baltimore Orioles pitcher Alfredo Simon, prime suspect in a New Year's shooting in the Dominican Republic, surrendered to police this morning.

He will face murder charges stemming from an incident in which Michael Esteban Castillo, 25, was shot to death and his 17-year-old brother, Starlin, was wounded.

Police spokesman Maximo Baez told CNN that Simon, 29, turned in his gun as part of the investigation into the shooting early Saturday morning in Luperon. Simon is to appear at the Puerto Plata courthouse for arraignment later today.

The Orioles declined comment.

You can take the pitcher out of Bmore, but you can't take the Bmore out of the pitcher.
