Utah Jazz trade Deron Williams to New Jersey Nets

By Cindy Boren

Updated at 1: 43 p.m.

The New Jersey Nets and Utah Jazz have agreed to a deal that will send All-Star point guard Deron Williams to the Nets in a multi-player package.

The Nets will send Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and two first-round picks (New Jersey's first-round pick this year and Golden State's first-round pick, by way of the Nets, next year) along with $3 million to the Jazz. The trade was first reported by Yahoo's Adrian Wojnaroski.

In a separate deal that is not yet official, the Nets will send Troy Murphy to Golden State for Dan Gadzuric and Brandan Wright.

Jazz players were shocked by the trade, as was Williams himself, according to now-former teammates.

Teammates said Nets' Williams had no idea he'd been traded by Jazz. Learned about it via ESPN's "SportsCenter."less than a minute ago via web

Less than two weeks ago, Williams' name surfaced as a primary reason for the resignation of Jazz Coach Jerry Sloan, who stepped down Feb. 10. And only two days ago, the Nets, whose owner says they'll win a title in the next four years, lost out to the New York Knicks in the Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes.

The big question: Can the Nets get a Deron Williams billboard outside MSG before Melo's debut? #wowless than a minute ago via TweetDeck

Shortly after the Nets made the deal, it got a little weird on Twitter.

Hey what does everyone think about the big moves by the Knicks & Nets? The Atlantic division is looking tough!less than a minute ago via web

I guess I will never understand why you get rid of the coach AND the player.

Totally stupid. I feel for Utah fans.

That's big. Favors has upside but he ain't ballin' like Deron Williams who's beeing labeled as a malcontent, but isn't.

Live from Los Angeles! Both Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams never fit into the Utah lifestyle because it is a Mormon state! Both are GANGSTERS with tatoos and shaved heads which offended a lot of people there! Look at Senate Majority Harry Reid of Nevada who is a Mormon who wants to ban prostitution in the state but to me it is poiltical payback for those counties which has prostitution because they did not support him for his re-election fight against Sharon Angle. The reason John Stockton and Karl Malone manage to stay in Utah a long time is because they had that All-American lifestyle which pleased the people of Utah. In the trade that sent Devin Harris and Derrick Favors from the New Jersey Nets for Derron Williams of the Utah Jazz, Favors is the biggest loser here! He should have stayed at Georgia Tech and developed his game after 3 or 4 years in college! Defense and the ability to adapt to the professional game is the key! The media constantly harp on the players to come out early because of the huge money at the expense of their development! I believe Favors will be out of the NBA because Utah is a conservative state and HE is very tempermental person which will not suit to their culture!!!

The Nets screwed up. Williams is not worth those two guys and an additional one, much less two 1st round draft picks. Stupid trade.

Wow, I wasn't aware that tatoos and a shaved head made you a GANGSTER! I thought the reason Utah wanted to trade Williams is because he had stop playing defense and was shooting too much. Sloan was a defensive minded coach and just had enough of the new no-defense NBA.

big_bors- Living in Utah and a Jazz fan... Not all people living in Utah and Jazz fans are Mormons! And if you can believe this they sell beer at Energy Solutions Center (Home of the Jazz!) I know shocking! Deron Williams is a LOVED by Jazz fans. Jazz fans are said to best the best fans! Many Mormon’s have Tattoo’s and are NOT perfect, I know another shock! Their human and make mistakes like all other people in all other religions, I know another shock! I don’t hear you saying that the Catholic’s don’t like the Jazz or the Baptist, when I am sure some of the Jazz players don’t follow their religions either. It is people like you that make the world a sad place to live because it cant just be about basketball and what is best for both teams and the players….it has to be about religion, race, lifestyle, ect.. sad.
