Utah Jazz trade Deron Williams to New Jersey Nets
Updated at 1: 43 p.m.
The New Jersey Nets and Utah Jazz have agreed to a deal that will send All-Star point guard Deron Williams to the Nets in a multi-player package.
The Nets will send Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and two first-round picks (New Jersey's first-round pick this year and Golden State's first-round pick, by way of the Nets, next year) along with $3 million to the Jazz. The trade was first reported by Yahoo's Adrian Wojnaroski.
In a separate deal that is not yet official, the Nets will send Troy Murphy to Golden State for Dan Gadzuric and Brandan Wright.
Jazz players were shocked by the trade, as was Williams himself, according to now-former teammates.
Teammates said Nets' Williams had no idea he'd been traded by Jazz. Learned about it via ESPN's "SportsCenter."
Less than two weeks ago, Williams' name surfaced as a primary reason for the resignation of Jazz Coach Jerry Sloan, who stepped down Feb. 10. And only two days ago, the Nets, whose owner says they'll win a title in the next four years, lost out to the New York Knicks in the Carmelo Anthony sweepstakes.
The big question: Can the Nets get a Deron Williams billboard outside MSG before Melo's debut? #wow
Shortly after the Nets made the deal, it got a little weird on Twitter.
Hey what does everyone think about the big moves by the Knicks & Nets? The Atlantic division is looking tough!
