Stocks Pare Losses Ahead of Close

After the chaos of this morning, stocks seem to have stabilized a bit.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down more than 200 points, more than 2 percent, going into the last half-hour of trading. Still, that's close to the best level of the day.

Widespread losses continued to dominate the markets all day, but some analysts are saying they expect stocks to pare their losses a bit heading into the weekend, hoping for improvements next week.

All three major indexes were down more than 2 percent as of 3.48 pm ET. The Dow was down 210 points, the Nasdaq down 41, and the S&P down 23.
