A Quick History of U.S. Government Bailouts
Here's a nice graphical wrap-up of 14 of the biggest U.S. government bailouts of entities in dire straits -- ranging from railroads to airlines to cities to banks -- provided by the reporters at ProPublica, the newish non-profit investigative journalism outfit funded by Herbert and Marion Sandler, wealthy former owners of a San Francisco thrift.
Once you finish the summary of each bailout, make sure to click on the "What happened after the bailout?" link. It may provide some clues on where we're heading with this raft of bailouts.
