GOP Sen. Kyl Seeks Delay on AIG Bonus-Tax Bill

Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.), the Republican whip, wants the Senate to delay -- at least for a week -- a vote on the House's bill to tax recipients of AIG bonuses, Reuters is reporting.

Analysts are attributing this afternoon's late Wall Street surge to Kyl's statement.

Kyl suggested hearings on the matter and is looking for alternatives to new, special taxes to get back the bonuses.

Last week, the House passed a bill imposing a 90-percent punitive tax on those who received bonuses of more than $125,000.

"I don't believe that Congress should rush to pass yet another piece of hastily crafted legislation in this very toxic atmosphere, at least without understanding the facts and the potential unintended consequences," Kyl said Friday, in the Senate. "Frankly, I think that's how we got into the current mess."

Jon Kyl doing corporate America's bidding?
Perish the thought!
Kyl is a total GOP tool. Compared to him, John McCain is perfect (and really, he is)

Wow, hell must have frozen over, I agree with Senator Kyl. I don't like the tax bill even though I hate the AIG bonuses. It's a terrible precedent, emotionally driven, and feels very much like a bill of attainder. I don't want a government that can write a punitive tax on a list of citizens just out of anger. This crazy rush feels too much like the shameful Terry Schiavo hysteria when the Senate tried to make federal law about a state family dispute.

I can't believe I'm writing this, but thank you, Sen. Kyl.

Is Hannity on vacation this week?

No delays! Proceed with the bill ASAP.
And if the Republicans try to filibuster, make them actually filibuster, not just threaten to do so. Make them stand up at the podium non-stop day-and-night for days or weeks to make their point (and delay government) and take the full wrath of the public for being obstructionists.

Analysts attribute Monday afternoon's stock market surge to a statement Kyl made last Friday? This makes absolutely NO sense at all. Mr. Ahrens must have some sort of agenda. Or he is just babbling.
