Fiat: We Might Be Interested in Opel, as Well as Chrysler
Fiat chief executive Sergio Marchionne said completing an alliance with Chrysler next week is “my first and foremost objective,” yet the Italian automaker has also expressed interest in General Motors' Opel brand in Germany, The Post's Kendra Marr reports.
“If the opportunity were to arise in a tangible way I think we will give a very hard look but I don’t think we’re there today,” Marchionne told analysts today in a conference call announcing Fiat's first-quarter earnings.
Fiat is looking into acquiring a majority stake in GM’s Opel whether or not the deal with Chrysler is completed, said a person familiar with the matter.
Marchionne said his company as “not had any direct conversations with Opel” to date.
Fiat lost 411 million euros, or $533 million, in the first three months of this year.
