Markets Closed Today for Good Friday
The Wall Street markets are closed today in observance of Good Friday.
In Washington, President Obama is summoning his top economic advisers and agency heads to the White House, and an update on the economy from the president is expected soon.
At the White House today are Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, FDIC Chairwoman Sheila Bair, SEC Chairwoman Mary Schapiro and Comptroller of the Currency John Dugan.
Some believe the economy is beginning to show signs of recovery, following yesterday's news that Wells Fargo expects to report record first-quarter profits later this month and the conclusion of another positive trading week in the markets.
Others, however, point to low confidence expressed by the nation's chief executives and still-rising unemployment to suggest the crisis bottom has not been hit.
