Last Week's New Jobless Claims: 570,000, More Than Expected

The recently unemployed filed 570,000 new unemployment claims last week, the same as the week before and 10,000 more than forecasters expected, the Labor Department reported moments ago.

Continuing claims rose from 6.13 million to 6.23 million, down from 6.9 million at the depth of the recession.

Today's news comes ahead of tomorrow's big number -- the August unemployment rate. Forecasters expect the national unemployment rate to tick up from 9.4 percent to 9.5 percent when the figure is released tomorrow morning.

Sounds like our glorious corporations are still having problems. Well, it's time to offshore some more american jobs. Gotta keep that shareholder value up. Maybe they can get the government to lower the minimum wage with their high-value lobbyists. Our corporations have shot themselves and the american workes in both feet.

The Washington Post must be wrong. Obama has said in July that the recession was over and the jobless rate had bottomed out.

Whom do you believe GOD or the Washington Post?

Sounds like our glorious Obama administration still does not know what
they are doing.
Just like Joe Biden said; we need to spend a lot more money that we do not have to spend ourselves out of debt.
It is nice to see that the administration is not going hungry.

As the jobles numbers continue to rise (regardless of how the government 'spins' the numbers) and unemployment percentage continues to escalate (it will not exceed 8.5% - Obama)and it is now 9.4% and headed higher, it will interesting to view the future comments of the administration as to "how well the stimulus bill" is functioning.

The veneer of 'infalibililty' of this president and his Dem 'sheepels' in Congress has quickly worn off to the extent that the American public does not believe a single statement they make.

In fact, truth be what it is, the American public does not believe that anyone in Washington even listens to anything the public has to say. If they did they would stop this health care reform as it is now being presented, tear up their 1000 page farce that they have written which no one in Congress has apparently read from cover to cover, and sit down in a non-partisan fashion and attempt to accomplish something constructive. That, of course, is impossible with the likes of Pelosi, Reid, etc.

THE GOVERNMENT IS NOT THE ANSWER TO ANY PROBLEM, THE GOVERNMENT IS THE PROBLEM.

To state it in the very simplist terms, we are giving away our individual freedoms little by little each and everyday to a federal (socialist) government whose ultimate goal is to control every facet of our lives.

If we don't call a halt to it now the coming generations of our children will become nothing more than numbers in a computer.

Such a shame.

What a surprise. Now, Odumbo and his slugs are issuing 125,000 green cards each month, adding all these foreigners to the job market.

Great change, huh?

The incompetent dumbo in the White House and his egghead advisors still don't have a clue.

Everyone beats on the party who is in. I guess you could elect another Republican president to cut some more taxes. Hmmm. W. Bush gave two big tax cuts calling govt. the problem and said the cuts will create 200 to 300 K jobs a month. Three months after he left office, go back one year and go one year forward, the country lost 6 million jobs. The largest loss since recording job losses (started recording in the 1940’s). Bush left office and said “tax cuts work”.

Forget who does the government. We are collapsing under a monopolized so-called free market that has given up on the American worker’s prosperity and cares only about maximizing greed. The oligarchy is collapsing under it’s own greed and it’s collapsing right on top of middle class America.

Their solution to fix this problem? Outsource some more jobs.

Every week we hear this.... "more than expected" How is this such a shock? And how come the stimulus isn't helping? and don't tell me OH we only used 10%... OBAMA SAID we need the money right away if we pass the stimulus right away unemployment won't go above 8% Right now we're sitting around 9.4% when in reality the unemployment rate is near 16%, many of which aren't accounted for due to the fact that they are not collecting unemployment, or currently looking for jobs.

Also why is it that congress was talking about a second stimulus when we only used 10% and that 10% hasn't done much if anything...

The government, however, keeps adding jobs. Having retired from the Federal government, I can testify its work force could be easily cut in half starting with eliminating the Energy and Education Depts., and the IRS.

How do those jobs drilling, refining and transporting all that oil and gas look now? Whoops, those are illegal.

My wife just lost her job this week along with 39 others. It was with a non-profit that was started during the last depression by FDR. You would think her job was stable but I guess it is not. If you ask me it is getting worse not better.

It is funny to watch the Obama Joker faced clownbot CHUD flesh eaters ("Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers)jump and contort around trying to defend the crap Obama is throwing at the wall sticking all the acorns to it.

Wallnuts.

When Batman comic book or SNL presents this, it is going to be funny.

Are they even still on, or has the depression taken them all out too?

I always wonder, what did the stupidest 5% of Americans do BEFORE there were weblogs to post stuff on ALL DAY. The likes of SAINT-The have been saved by the internet. Nobody will listen to them in person so off to the computer they go.
