Bernie Madoff Wins First Prison Fight

Bernie Madoff, serving 150 years in a North Carolina federal prison for running a multibillion-dollar Ponzi scheme, got the better end of his first prison fight, the New York Post reports.

Before you get ahead of yourself, this wasn't like an episode of "Oz," with homemade shivs and blood everywhere.

No, it sounds more like an episode of "Golden Girls Gone Bad." The Post is reporting that Madoff and another senior-citizen prisoner got into a ball-yard dust-up over, of all things, the stock market.

Yelling escalated to the other prisoner shoving Madoff, who shoved back hard enough to knock the other old guy down, fellow prisoners who saw the fight said.

Apparently, the two jail birds made up because they were spotted the next day hanging out. Proving that prison can really bring two men together.

I am sure that Madoff will do well in prison. He will have time to write his memoirs which will allow him to take swipes at some of those who have criticized him. If the appellate court views his sentence fairly his sentence will be reduced to something like 8 years or so and he will be released to enjoy some of his old age.
Being in prison is not necessarily a bad thing for an old man. Old men can enjoy the solitude and don't miss sex as much as a young man would. At age 69 if I were unable to support myself I would go to a jurisdiction with nice prisons and commit a crime. Probably would meet some nice people in prison. Certainly a lot better than some of those who should be in prison but managed to stay out.

Does anyone really expect Madoff to get into a real fight? I am really surprised that the paper even gave him 4 inches for the pushing match.....I would rather read about how much money his brother and kids are going to have to pony up to the people swindled by good ole Bernie maybe the kids could have to go to work like most people's kids have to instead of having Dad hand them someone else's hard earned money and call it clean because Dad moved it from his left hand to his right hand, where did the money come from? Washing it doesn't make it legit, does it?

So what you're saying, jimeglrd8, is that Roman Polanski will enjoy his 'time away,' too?

Well!

SO MUCH for free speech. The post at 4:30 IS GONE.

It's fine to post things like "I'd love to burn Arabs" as did the other day. (read Krauthammer and Cohen posts all the way through and gasp, if you're civilized)

But mention the crummy littel crook Madoff is Jew, and smack, you're off the post.

The Washington Post is so
Israeli centric, it's posters heavy with
Israeli screamers nand AIPAC programers.

But you can't mention you know what.

Ummm..... did you FLUNK 8th grade civics?

The 1st Amendment (that addition to the Constitution that mentions speech) does NOT APPLY to private individuals or business.

It only applies to governmental bodies. That means the government can not ban or censor your speech (unless it falls in the 'yelling fire in a crowded theater' class.) It DOES NOT mean that private business nor private individuals can not tell you to shut up and remove comments they deem obnoxious from their property aka the website.

It also means that a private employer can fire ou for opening your mouth and saying something they don't like.

Go back to school and learn the basics before babbling.

You have free speech. You can say whatever you like on a street corner.

But the WaPo does not have any obligation to help you carry your toxic message to millions of people. It's their website, and they have every right to moderate it.

A return to civility is long overdue in this country.

And the problem with wishing the aforementioned is?

Well, "whistling | October 13, 2009 8:11 PM" since you feel you should be the moderator, why don't YOU just go ahead and say what you REALLY want to say: "But you can't mention you know what."

There are but three real American allies: Luxemburg, Israel and what's left of the British Empire. AIPAC's not an enemy of the U.S.A.: it's one of our allies who have every right to have our support and express their right to free speech (i.e. "lobbying"). After all, you're the one for free speech, ain't ya?

By heavens, one must not suppress free speech. It is that which makes America great.

What Whistling needs to do is to show that a higher proportion of prisoners in general are Jewish than gentile adjusted for their proportion in the population. The data should be readily available. If he cannot do this, then all he is doing is speaking from his rectum, the origin of most of his best ideas.

Come now Whisling do us a favor. Take all the prisoners and show us how many of them are Jewish. Then and only than can you claim Jews threaten America. Do the same thing for Nobel Prize winners while you are at it. Someone said an African American just won one.

Uh huh, Israel is a US ally, that's why they keep trying to get Jonathan Pollard pardoned.

Too bad Madoff didn't pick a fight with someone tougher who could have actually kicked his swindlin' butt. But leave it to Madoff to find yet another a weakling to prey upon.

Here's to hoping that future scraps with fellow inmates WILL resemble Oz and someone will take him out like they did Jeffrey Dahmer - with a broomhandle to the same place Madoff stuck so many others...

We Americans do love our Old-Testament-style government-sponsored retribution and vengeance.

The more lawless and violent our prisons, the happier we are.

Never mind the moral imperative to protect the safety of those who we force into our custody; if a pesky Constitution precludes cruel judicial punishment, we'll just have to inflict our cruelty extrajudicially.

My two cents. It is rude to flame people unnecessarily on a message board. This means that it is rude to be antisemetic as well as anti-arab or anti-middle easterner. I have friends who are both jewish and palistinian (one whose both). Really, we can all get along. Honest.

I agree some of the pundits can be inflamatory at times, that is pretty stupid also. This particular article however is not about jewish people in general but a specific criminal who did specific things to defraud people. Stop trying to be ingenious and stop changing the topic. You've made your point, everyone gets it, now can we get back to the subject at hand?
